Welcome to today's meditation.
Be free to explore your senses.
Be one with the silence.
Be still.
Be quiet.
Be at peace.
Take a deep breath in and then slowly release it.
Let's get in touch with all of our senses.
Let's start with our eyes open.
Look at all the colors surrounding you.
Really observe the beauty in the colors and designs around you.
Notice the shades of colors,
The sun shining through them,
The shadows the objects project.
Notice it all.
Take it in.
Now continue your slow,
Deep breaths.
And when you're ready,
Close your eyes to continue to concentrate on our senses.
With our eyes closed.
Let's bring to mind all the beauty.
God has created in our world.
Beauty we see each day that brings us such joy.
Let's remember the beautiful smile on a friend's face.
The sparkle in our lover's eyes and the pure innocence and joy seen in a child.
Call to mind the last sunrise you watched with all its magnificent colors and beauty.
The signal to the start of another amazing day.
Or the sunset with its array of colors splashed across the sky.
All this a prelude to a sparkling sky full of stars.
As far as the eye can see.
And if you're lucky you may have seen a shooting star.
So many beautiful visions to recall from the simple to the most detailed all God's artistry.
Now as you continue your slow cleansing breaths.
Take in the aromas around you.
What do you smell a cake baking in the oven or fragrant pot of coffee brewing perhaps.
Do you smell the scented candle burning beside you.
Bring to mind other wonderful sense you encounter the powdery clean scent of a newborn baby.
The breath of a puppy and the famous whiff of a perfume that brings to mind a loved one that wears or wore it.
There are also the everyday sense we tend to take for granted.
We'd be missed greatly if they were gone tomorrow.
For instance,
The familiar sense of our loved ones that bring us comfort.
The fragrance of flowers growing in our garden or a home cooked meal.
These are just a few of the countless sense we encounter on a daily basis that we may not even notice or appreciate unless we slow down and become mindful of our surroundings.
Now deep breath in.
Hold it.
Slow breath out.
Continue your breaths.
And let's explore the sense of sound.
Your sense of sound allows you to hear my voice.
Hear this meditation,
And the sound of ocean waves in the background.
As you relax into your body,
Bring to mind some sounds that bring you joy,
Such as a loved one's voice,
A favorite song playing on the radio,
Or raindrops pitter pattering on the windows.
Those sounds you may be thinking of or a child's laugh,
A newborn baby's first cry,
The calming sound of a light breeze blowing through the trees,
Or crackling fireplace perhaps.
Sounds that we may overlook,
Or even tune out in our busy day to day chores.
Sounds at times may be overwhelming,
Too loud,
Too busy.
At most times we need to concentrate on our breath and bring our minds and senses inward to be at peace in our own space.
Now let's observe our sense of taste.
What a blessing to experience different foods,
Drinks,
And love.
Yes,
Love.
We all know the taste of our lover's kiss,
Or their skin for instance.
Another desire of many is that piece of chocolate.
Just ponder for a moment,
The rich,
Creamy,
Sweet taste,
And of it melting in our mouth.
Such deliciousness.
Or that sweet dessert,
Sugary icing,
Smooth pudding.
The taste and flavors are countless.
Maybe in a spicy or salty mood,
A flavor explosion for your mouth.
On a nice hot day,
How great a big bowl of cold,
Refreshing ice cream tastes.
Or a drink of iced tea or lemonade to cool you down.
Then let your mind drift into a cold blustery day.
Snow perhaps.
When you are sitting comfortably in your home,
Sipping a mug of hot cocoa.
Letting the richness swirl around your mouth,
Warming your whole body with each swallow.
A simple taste,
Savored,
Appreciated,
That can call to mind such fond thoughts and memories.
Lastly,
Let's explore our sense of touch,
And how if we really feel it all,
We can remain centered,
Balanced,
And at peace.
Touch,
Something so simple.
But we humans need this to survive.
To thrive,
Even.
Holding our lover's hand,
The hug of a child or someone else we love,
And cuddling with our pets are just a few.
Other comforting touches may be a soft blanket,
Hugging and warming our body.
A cool breeze blowing across our cheek.
The heat of the sun warming us,
Or the cool water washing away our worries.
Still others may appreciate the touch of a strong massage,
Working all the stress and tension in our bodies.
While others simply appreciate the comfort of their bodies lying on their couch,
Melting into the cushions,
And resting their bodies after a busy or rough day.
All of our senses are the same,
But yet very different.
We each appreciate different sights,
Sounds,
Taste,
Smells and touches.
Nobody's preference is better than another's,
It is just part of what makes you you.
So now let's slowly open our eyes,
And remember and appreciate not only all of our senses,
And what they can do to enhance our life,
But embrace our individuality.
And be free to be you,
And explore your senses.
