If you've never come across Meridian Tapping or EFT,

Which stands for Emotional Freedom Techniques,

I'm going to set you up for success.

It's a wonderful tool I've been teaching and sharing for a couple of decades.

I love it because it has a powerful ability to shift energy in the body quickly around a challenge we are experiencing,

Whether that challenge is physical,

Mental,

Or emotional,

Helping to bring the body into balance and resolve the circumstance.

Tapping has such a wide range of applications.

It can help alleviate anxiety and depression,

Relieve pain and discomfort,

Clear addiction and phobias,

Activate healing,

And enhance athletic performance.

One of my favorite ways to use it is to clear limiting beliefs and help embody aspirational ones so that we can quickly shift our experience and transform our circumstances for the better.

EFT doesn't just change our emotional state,

It has powerful physiological effects too.

In one study,

Tapping reduced levels of the stress hormone cortisol by 43%.

Tapping has also been shown to regulate such things as gene expression,

Brain synchrony,

And hormonal synthesis.

So its effects are truly far-reaching.

Each tapping practitioner has their own particular EFT quirks.

I tend to tap with one hand,

But some people like to tap on both sides of the body simultaneously with both hands.

Usually,

You use the fingers of your dominant hand to tap on each of the points.

A quick internet search will give you an image to download of the tapping sequence,

And it's useful to refer to while you are learning the points.

Let's run through them together.

So we begin tapping on what's called the karate chop point of one hand with the fingertips of your other hand.

And here we speak the setup statement addressing the issue we are tapping on and following the phrase with an affirmation.

For instance,

We might say,

Even though I'm feeling anxious,

I choose to deeply love and accept myself anyway.

In general,

We do three cycles of setup statements,

And then we move to the next point,

The eyebrow point.

Here,

We tap with two fingertips,

Usually index and middle finger,

At the point where your eyebrow begins,

While repeating a short reminder phrase of the issue you are working on,

Such as,

Feeling anxious.

The next point is the side of the eye.

Here you are tapping on the eye socket bone with two fingertips.

Next is under the eye.

We use the same two fingertips for all of the points on the face.

The next point is under the nose.

Then your chin point,

Which is the indentation between your chin and your lower lip.

Next is the collarbone point,

And this is about an inch below your collarbone and an inch outward from the centre line.

And here,

You can use all four fingers to tap.

The next point is under the arm,

And this is approximately one hand's width below your armpit,

And again,

Using all four fingers.

And lastly,

The top of the head point.

And here,

You make a circle with your fingertips and thumb,

Like a claw,

And tap around the centre of your crown.

After this last point,

You take a deep breath in and release it to clear the energy channels from this round of tapping.

When you are tapping to clear a specific emotion or condition,

Such as fear,

It can be helpful to rate your fear on a scale of zero to ten before beginning,

And then check in after subsequent rounds to see if that number has shifted.

Usually a number of two or lower isn't disrupting your energy system in any significant way,

So if your number is still high,

It's good to keep doing tapping rounds until it reduces to a two or below.

Checking in on your zero to ten scale as you go will put you in touch with the power of this tool to positively shift your experience quickly and measurably.

And the more you can tune in to your bodily sensations and the messages and emotions that arise as you tap,

And incorporate these into your tapping phrases,

The more effective your tapping will be.

Don't get hung up on the words though.

You are welcome to repeat a single phrase over and over,

Or just tune in to an emotion you are working with,

Without speaking any words,

Until it clears.

I can't wait for you to experience the benefits of this amazing and simple technique for yourself.

It really is one of the best ways I've found to quickly calm the nervous system,

Clear difficult emotions,

And rewire your brain for greater freedom and well-being.

Enjoy!

I found these Tapping instructions really easy to understand and follow for me as a beginner. This is an ideal track to do before listening to Susannah's tapping tracks. I also love attending Susannah's live Insight Timer tapping sessions. Here I can watch and follow her Tapping to deepen my practice.
