My name is Susan and I will be your guide today.
Take a moment to get comfortable.
You can lie down in a supportive chair or on a bed.
Position yourself so your spine is steady and stable.
You may want to cover yourself with a blanket for warmth and to facilitate a state of safety.
Do whatever you need to be as comfortable as possible.
Chronic pain can be devastating to live with.
I understand because I have experienced it and know how disruptive it can be to career,
Sleep,
And relationships with family and friends.
In the midst of this suffering,
I hope you can find some comfort in knowing that God is ever at hand to comfort us,
To guide us,
To lead us on a path to freedom.
The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
My God,
My strength in whom I will trust,
My buckler and the horn of my salvation and my high tower.
If you have tried numerous treatments for your chronic pain and nothing has worked,
This meditation practice and bringing your awareness to God's presence can help you,
Especially if you practice on a regular basis.
Chronic pain often isn't caused by damage to the physical body.
Maybe you had back pain after an injury,
But after months of recovery and physical therapy,
It's still causing you terrible suffering.
Or maybe you had a migraine after the loss of a loved one or another traumatic event.
And now you have head pain often and don't know why.
Your body may have initially incited the pain to get you to slow down because you were doing something that your body interpreted as harmful.
After the traumatic event,
The migraine kept you at home so you didn't have to face talking to people.
The back pain kept you from training too hard,
Keeping you from re-injuring your body.
Eventually,
Your body became accustomed to sending you these pain signals,
Even though you no longer need them.
And now that you are afraid of experiencing this pain,
Your nervous system has gotten caught up in a state of constant fear and worry.
By contemplating the safety and comfort that is constantly available to us in God's presence,
We can remind our bodies and minds that we aren't in danger,
That we can trust God with our care.
When we wholeheartedly allow ourselves to feel God's comforting embrace,
We realize we don't need to panic,
We don't need to shorten our breath,
We don't need to be afraid anymore.
We can assert that we are safe in the arms of divine love,
And we can return to a state of comfort and calm.
In today's practice,
I will share passages from the Bible and other spiritual literature.
These passages will be constant reminders to your body and mind that you are safe.
As one of God's children,
You can tune your awareness into the fact that God is with you all the time,
And that you are never alone.
He shall cover thee with his feathers,
And under his wings shalt thou trust.
His truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
I will also share citations that will help you release fear,
Which may cause pain or intensify it.
By putting all your trust in God,
Step by step,
You can walk your way out of pain,
Out of limitation,
Out of enslavement,
So you can get back to fulfilling the path in life that God intended for you.
It is God's intention for you to turn away from constant glamoring and sensations in your physical body,
And to awaken to your true nature,
Your spiritual self,
Which God created,
That is always healthy and free.
Preserve me,
O God,
For in thee do I put my trust.
The Lord is good,
A stronghold in the day of trouble,
And he knoweth them that trust in him.
What time I am afraid,
I will trust in thee.
Take a moment now to see yourself as a creation of God.
God never created anything less than perfection.
You know that from reading the first chapter of Genesis.
God saw everything that he had made,
And behold,
It was very good.
Say to yourself,
God created me perfect in a spiritual infinite form that has always existed and that always will exist.
There is no pain in the spiritual me that God created.
There is no illness in the spiritual me that God created.
I can never be separated from God's loving presence.
All negative material body experiences can fade away when I awaken to my true being in constant harmony and health.
Spiritualizing my thought allows me to spiritualize my experience.
The righteous shall be glad in the Lord and shall trust in him,
And all the upright in heart shall glory.
Psalm 64 10 Let neither fear nor doubt overshadow your clear sense and calm trust that the recognition of life harmonious,
As life eternally is,
Can destroy any painful sense of,
Or belief in,
That which life is not.

16-20 I will say of the Lord,
He is my refuge and my fortress,
My God,
In Him will I trust.
Psalms 91 2 I'd like you to take some time out now to pray.
But before you do this,
Allow your mind to travel to a sanctuary,
A place you find comforting and uplifting.
Maybe you're walking to the top of a mountain like Jesus once did.
Soaking up 360 degree views of the surrounding countryside.
Maybe you're walking on a beach barefoot,
Feeling the gentle touch of sea breeze on your face and hearing the sigh of the waves.
Or maybe you're in another quiet place that you love.
It's totally up to you.
Go there now.
Experience that place with all five of your physical senses.
And begin to feel your father,
Mother's presence.
And now ask God for guidance.
Ask for help and healing.
Or whatever you feel that you need to communicate to God at this moment.
And now thank God,
Knowing that whatever you need will be provided.
Divine love supplies all good.
Cause me to hear thy loving kindness in the morning.
For in thee do I trust.
Cause me to know the way wherein I should walk.
For I lift up my soul unto thee.

Simply by bringing awareness to your breath.
This affirmation of life.
And allowing it to flow.
Fluid and comfortable.
You can bring a state of calm to your mind and body.
All the while my breath is in me.
And the spirit of God is in my nostrils.
Job 27.

Inhale and exhale.
With ease and comfort.
Now begin to count the rhythm of your breath.
Count the length of your inhale.
Count the length of your exhale.
Perhaps your inhale is four counts.
And your exhale is four counts.
Simply breathe and notice.
Now consciously try to lengthen your exhale.
So that it is longer than your inhale.
It might be one count longer.
Or even twice as long as the inhale.
Depending on what feels comfortable to you.
For example.
Maybe you'll inhale for a count of four.
And exhale for a count of six.
A long exhale.
Relaxes your nervous system.
And is a reminder to your body and mind.
That all is well.
That you are safe.
And while you're breathing.
Allow yourself to just.
Feel enveloped.
In God's loving light.
God is present.
Right in this room with you.

Now come back to your normal breathing rhythm.
Come walk with love along the way.

And he shall bring it to pass.
