Good morning,
Good afternoon,
Good evening.
We'll start with a reading.
This is from Lao Tzu,
He was the Tao Te Ching many moons ago.
Always we hope someone else has the answer.
Some other place will be better.
Some other time it will all turn out.
But this is it.
No one else has the answer.
No other place will be better.
And it is already turned out.
At the centre of your being you have the answer.
You know who you are and you know what you want.
There's no need to run outside for better seeing.
Not to peer from yet another window.
Rather abide at the centre of your being.
For the more you leave it,
The less you learn.
So really you could exchange the word centre of your being,
Use the heart of your being,
Silence,
It's honestly the same thing.
That's really what we're doing,
You could call it direct experience.
It's not the geographical centre.
I tried to find the centre,
Where's the centre?
It's not that,
It's not that at all.
You're resting right here with the actuality of what's what's happening.
That's what he's talking about.
I tend to call it silence.
Just being here,
Direct experience,
The sound of the ticking clock,
The breath.
But we keep going to thought because that's,
We're intoxicated with thought.
Thought is the about world.
Thought is about something.
There's life happening and then there's thoughts about life happening.
These are the thoughts about life happening.
It's not life happening.
That's the difference.
And most of the thoughts,
A lot of the thoughts are not even about what's happening.
It makes stories up,
Just makes them up.
And we spend our days listening to that,
Instead of just being with life as it is.
That's the awakened state.
It's not something mystical.
It's not mystical.
But you can't understand it.
Because that's again with the mind,
We try and understand it.
Give it up.
You won't work it out.
Rest in the silence,
Rest in the beingness,
The presence,
Whatever you want to call it.
I don't care what you call it.
Just rest there.
Don't push for an experience.
Give up ambition,
Put ambition to one side.
Ambition is a dangerous horse.
If you don't know how to ride it,
It will just carry you away and dump you.
I want to talk about here,
In the meditation.
You see,
It's the less we do,
The more we see.
I don't even like the word learning,
But we have to use words.
We don't learn more information,
That's not it.
It's an intuitive knowing.
It's not knowing of the ego.
The ego wants information,
Wants to know,
Wants to be.
See,
The ego mind is a hoarder.
It hoards.
The more information I have,
The nearer I'll be,
The more safe I'll be,
The more secure,
The more impressive.
I feel good about myself.
I've got all these facts.
But it doesn't bring happiness.
We know that,
We sort of know it.
It doesn't bring peacefulness.
Because it's not there.
It's not there.
It's not there.
It's not there in the striving.
It's not at the end of a long strive.
It's already here.
And as we rest in the silence and stillness in the body,
In the presence,
At some point we start to get a taste of it.
It reveals itself.
It's an unravelling.
It's a continuous,
It never stops.
Unravelling,
Revealing itself.
But see,
To the ego mind,
What's he talking about?
What reveals itself?
There's nothing here.
That's what ego mind does.
It only deals in dualities and this and that.
How big?
How big?
How valuable?
How much does it cost?
Words,
Words,
Words.
Language.
Language gave us tomorrow,
Gave us yesterday.
Useful.
Useful.
Language gave us anxiety.
We don't see that.
We don't see that most obvious of things.
I'm still seeing it guys.
It's like,
It's not,
You know,
Not completely out of the woods.
I don't know anybody who is,
But there's a big difference.
That's why I say sometimes,
Take the labels away.
What's anxiety if you take the label away?
It's so obvious,
We don't do it.
And just be with that raw,
What we call sensation.
I'm not saying there's nothing happening.
Let's sit quietly.
And we'll do a couple of deep breaths,
Help you to settle.
And then we'll just rest.
In the silence,
In the centre of our being.
Don't think about that.
Just be confused.
And the breath's there if you need it.
Just have just steady things.
So as the poem was saying,
This is it.
Each moment is our life.
We're going to substitute it.
Ignore it.
It's not a fake one.
It's simple.
The so-called next moment won't be better.
It will be what it is.
So give up the next.
Just checking that you're relaxed.
Take a deep breath if you need to.
Centre yourself.
Okay.
I'll bring this to the end.
Nice photograph,
Helen.
Nice picture.
See you guys.
