Welcome to today's talk,
Making hard things easier.
I'd like to begin with a little story.
I've noticed that every time I go to sit down to write,
Or create something.
I'm suddenly hungry.
I need to eat now.
Got to go to the fridge.
Check things out.
You know what?
I need a coffee right now.
I tend to.
Distract myself.
I want to procrastinate.
Does this ever happen to you?
You're about to do something that's really good for you,
That's important,
And you self-sabotage and you put it off.
Ever noticed how you feel when you're about to do something important?
The anticipation of doing something hard.
Is harder.
Than actually doing it.
Ever noticed that where you just,
Oh,
I don't want to do my taxes.
Don't want to open up my bank account.
And just the dread of it is worse than actually just going in there.
And starting your taxes,
Actually doing them.
For anything,
Whether it's going to the gym,
Starting a new diet,
Even doing your meditation practice.
Hard stuff can bring up hard feelings.
What is that hardness about?
It is fear,
Resistance.
It's an emotional disturbance that begins to happen and for a reason.
The question I'd like to ask you is,
What will you do when your stuff comes up?
Because your stuff is going to come up.
Anytime you move closer to your dream,
You up-level,
You engage in your creative vision,
You might start to notice that everything just begins to pull at your energy.
People call you.
Problems happen.
All these distractions.
What do you do when your stuff comes up,
When something feels hard and it's just easier to go to what's safe?
It's easier to go to the fridge than it is to write that first word.
Are you hard on yourself?
It's really important to.
Be aware of this.
Because when hard things come up,
Some of us have been taught to push through it.
No pain,
No gain.
And then we just are harder on ourselves.
We force ourselves to do what we need to do.
And is that really an effective way to accomplish your intentions,
Your dreams?
So the thing is,
Expect resistance when you know you're about to do something hard or important.
Expect it,
Know that it's going to come up,
That it comes with the territory of doing what you love,
Doing what you know is important,
Following your heart.
So be ready.
Know that it's natural to feel fear.
To feel insecure or uncertain,
Especially when you don't know what you're doing.
To be avoided.
And to just.
.
.
Go back to what feels safe.
This is often why we find ourselves stuck.
We don't know how to get to the next part of our life because we don't know how to handle the fear that comes up with doing something unknown.
Feel it.
Notice it,
Then take a little step.
A tiny,
Micro step.
What I've noticed is that just this kind of emotion starts to bubble up,
This background emotion,
When you're about to do something that feels quote unquote hard.
In our mind,
We carry it as hard and heavy,
Whether it's doing the dishes,
Cleaning the floor,
Having to have a tough conversation,
For example,
With someone,
And these feelings start to percolate.
And it can feel like chaos,
It feels like fear or anxiety,
And to just be aware of those feelings.
Just like when we're sitting in meditation,
We're aware but we don't have to react.
We can allow them to come up and then in that state,
Still allow ourselves to take a really small step and notice what happens.
So if you're going to the gym to do a whole hour workout,
First,
Just put on your shoes.
That's the first thing you would need to do,
Or get your keys.
If you're going to write,
Open your computer.
Just log into the bank account.
That's the first thing that needs to happen.
If you need to call someone to have a hard conversation,
Pull up the number.
Ask yourself what's one tiny thing you could do.
Feel the fear,
Uncertainty,
And still be willing to.
Take the step.
Complete the action.
Take the risk.
So when that hard energy comes up with quote unquote hard stuff that your mind has a mental block around,
When you feel that block,
That fear,
That resistance,
That really sticky,
Heavy energy,
Instead of going harder,
Let yourself be soft.
Go softer.
Be easy on yourself,
Be kind to yourself in those moments.
Because being soft is powerful.
Being kind is effective.
It allows you to move and it helps you flow into what you need to do.
And kindness opens the door.
It opens your awareness.
It allows you to feel safe and secure.
It allows those hard things to feel more accessible to you.
Especially when you know that you don't have to be perfect.
You don't have to get it right the first time.
You can make mistakes.
You can quote unquote fail and learn.
And keep going.
Because really it's the ego that makes it hard.
It's the perception of the ego that I have to perform,
I have to do it a certain way,
And if I don't,
There's some huge negative consequence that's there when it's really probably not.
Learn how to energetically release this really tough,
Tight,
Tense energy and replace it.
So think about being an energy shifter.
You know,
When all of that tension comes up.
Replace it,
Invite in,
Instead,
The feeling of allowance.
Permission.
Spaciousness.
Flow.
Be willing to take a kind and firm approach.
Thank you for listening to today's talk.
Namaste.
