How To Gain Clarity When Facing A Difficult Decision

Facing a difficult decision currently? Feeling uncertain which is the right path to take? This meditation will help you tap into your inner knowing and leave you with a sense of peace, confidence, and clarity on which path is best for you to take at this time of your life.

This meditation will help you find a sense of peace,

Clarity,

And confidence in the midst of having to make this difficult decision in your life right now.

To get started,

I invite you to take a position that feels comfortable for you,

That might be sitting upright on a cushion,

On the floor,

Or lying down if that feels better for you in this moment.

And I invite you to go ahead and close your eyes.

And we'll begin by taking a big deep breath in,

Filling the belly expand,

And slowly exhale sighing out through the mouth.

And again,

Take a big deep breath in and slowly exhale through the mouth.

And if it feels like things internally are chaotic,

Busy,

Or that you're having a hard time focusing because of this difficult decision,

Just observe that and try not to judge or criticize it.

And if you're able to ask those feelings and those parts of you,

If they would be willing to take a step back,

Just for the next few moments,

Reminding them that you can better help them and all parts of you if they allow you to have some space to care for yourself.

And now I invite you to think about this difficult decision that you're faced with at this time in your life.

And there might be a lot of options,

But I want you to think about the two options with this decision that you see most drawn to or that you're vacillating back and forth between.

And we'll have time to make space for both,

But I want you to see if one feels louder,

Maybe like it's trying to get your attention more than the other in this moment.

And we'll begin by focusing on that one.

And if it feels like that other decision is still lingering or really trying to get your attention,

Just let it know that you hear it and remind it that we'll come back to it.

We'll make sure to make space for it.

And so focusing in on that first decision or path that you could possibly choose,

I want you to imagine that this is the path that you have taken with this decision,

That it's already occurred and you are in the future.

And really allow yourself to fill what life would be like if that was the path that you had chosen.

Notice how you fill in your body,

Knowing that this is your new reality.

And then thinking about other aspects of your life that would be impacted if that was the path that you had taken.

Maybe it would be your relationships.

Maybe you would live in a new place.

Maybe you would have a new job or maybe a new sense of purpose or community.

And go ahead and spend a few moments here,

Continuing to reflect on those things and really allowing your body to fully be in that space of this future moment.

And if your mind begins to wander,

Feels distracted,

Just invite it back to being in this future moment.

And so now that you've taken some time to really fill into that space of what that path would be like,

I want you to focus on how your body feels in this moment now.

And it may be helpful to do a body scan to really tune into all of the sensations that are present.

And you can go ahead and begin that now by starting at the top of your head and spending some time here,

Working your way down every aspect of your body until you've reached the very tip of your toes.

And now simply reflect on what your body felt like during that body scan,

Maybe noticing what was present for you,

And just take note of it.

And now I would like you to think about that second decision or path that could be an option for you.

And similar to what we did before,

I invite you to imagine that this is the path that you have taken,

And you are already in the future.

And once again,

Really think about what it feels like to know that that is the path that you have taken.

Notice how your body feels.

And think about those different aspects of your life that would be impacted by that being the decision or path that you had taken.

And might again be relationships,

Living in a new place,

Having a new place of employment,

Or maybe even just a new sense of purpose or community.

And go ahead and spend a few moments here really filling into that future moment of what it's like to know that that is the path that you have taken.

And now that you've allowed yourself to be in that future moment,

Go ahead and similar to before,

Focus in on your body.

And it may be helpful to do another body scan.

And go ahead and begin at the top of your head,

Spending a few moments here,

Working your way down every aspect of your body until you've reached the tips of your toes.

And once you've completed that body scan,

Simply notice what stood out for you,

The sensations or emotions that were present,

And just make note of them.

And now that we've taken some time to really embody these two paths,

Really feel as if they've already occurred and what that would mean for you and different aspects of your life,

I encourage you to reflect back on those body scans and what you noticed was present within your body after the fact,

Or what kinds of emotions were present for you.

And I want you to ask yourself if one decision felt more in alignment with your authentic self than the other.

Or another way to ask this is did one decision feel more expansive and did one decision feel more constrictive?

And one decision feel more warmth and full of love and light?

And did one feel more heavy and darker?

And if it feels like it's hard to distinguish,

That's okay.

Sometimes it takes a while for our intuition and our inner knowing to show itself and to point us in the right direction.

And so I invite you to do this meditation and reflection as many times as you need to until it feels like that intuition has pointed you in the right direction,

Because it will always guide us in the right direction.

And as we wrap up for today,

I invite you to express some gratitude towards yourself for being willing to take this time to develop this deeper understanding and awareness of what is best for you.

And really express some gratitude to all parts of you that were present and that allowed this decision and this moment of clarity to be reached.

And whenever you're ready,

Take a final big deep breath in and slowly exhale.

And you can begin to bring your attention back to your body by wiggling your fingers and toes and slowly open your eyes.

I invite you to spend a few moments here really reflecting on what you were able to learn from this experience.

And if it feels helpful,

Maybe journal or do whatever you need to do to really ground yourself in that awareness.

It’s a hard decision related to my child, and I uncontrollably cried during both scenarios. I had a feeling that the hardest decision is the right one, which I already kind of knew, but it confirmed. I am gonna keep doing it until I know for sure what I want to do. I don’t want my preconceived ideas, or whatever that is called, to influence my decision. Or maybe I should let my beliefs influence it, I don’t know yet… Thank you!🙏
