Here is a poem on forgiveness I wrote a few months ago.
Forgive,
But never forget,
Said a wise voice.
I have learned to see betrayal,
Lies,
And deceiving actions,
Deliberate or not,
As reflection of the others in a world.
Resentment can transform into bitterness and nihilism.
A drop of poison can darken your being.
I do not see forgiveness as a noble act towards the one holding the sword,
But necessary to re-establish serenity of mind.
Forgive but never forget.
Never forget who you are is the fundamental lesson.
An enemy can only win if you allow them to alter the direction of your heart,
And ceases to exist when you realize it is always your choice to forgive.
Do I respect myself sufficiently to forgive another?
Do I hold onto resentment and give power to what happened months,
Years,
Or even decades ago?
A simple reminder that you have the power to choose forgiveness or resentment.
What is it going to be?
Mahatma Gandhi once said,
The weak can never forgive.
Disgustfulness is the attribute of the strong.
