Welcome,
Listener,
To this short meditation on holding steady in a burning world.
So I invite you to become comfortable,
Either seated or lying down.
You might take a full body stretch and a couple breaths.
You might even pause this meditation to help yourself get settled in,
Find a comfortable environment.
And if it feels safe,
I encourage you to close your eyes or soften your gaze and take a deep breath in and slowly let it out.
Again,
Breathe in,
Feel the air in your lungs,
And release.
Notice the space you are in,
The ground beneath you,
The rhythm of your breath,
And the steady beat of your heart.
The world is burning.
It is easy to feel swallowed by grief,
By fear,
By exhaustion.
Every day we witness fires,
Both real and metaphorical.
Climate crises,
Injustice,
Suffering,
Uncertainty.
The weight of it can feel unbearable and yet,
Here you are,
Still here.
You are not alone.
Take another breath here,
And as you inhale,
Imagine pulling in strength,
Not just your own,
But the collective strength of those who have walked before you,
Of those who stand beside you now.
You are a part of something larger,
Woven into the fabric of those who refuse to give up.
Now gently bring your awareness to the small pockets of light that remain,
Like the warmth of the sun on your skin,
The sound of leaves rustling in the wind,
The laughter of a friend,
The stillness of the night sky,
Endless and vast.
Because even in the midst of destruction,
There is beauty,
And even in the face of despair,
There is love.
As you breathe in,
Imagine gathering these moments,
The one that remind you why you stay,
Why you fight,
Why you love.
And as you exhale,
Let go of the heaviness that you carry,
Even if just for a few moments.
Feel the ground beneath you again,
Solid,
Steady,
Holding you.
You are still here,
And that is enough.
When you are ready,
Gently wiggle your fingers and your toes.
Let your breath deepen,
Your awareness.
And when you open your eyes,
Carry this with you.
The world may be burning,
But so are you,
With resilience,
With purpose,
With an ember of hope that refuses to go out.
And please remember,
You are not alone.
I love you.
