The third eye chakra, known as Ajna in Sanskrit, is the sixth primary chakra and is located between the eyebrows. It is associated with intuition, insight, and spiritual awareness. This chakra governs our ability to perceive beyond the physical senses, fostering inner wisdom and a deeper understanding of the world. When the third eye chakra is balanced, we experience heightened intuition, clarity of thought, and a strong connection to our inner guidance. However, when it is blocked or imbalanced, it can lead to confusion, lack of foresight, and difficulty in accessing intuition.

Welcome everybody,

Good evening,

It's nice to see you all.

My name is Seth Monk,

Thank you for coming to class today.

You came on a good night,

Isn't it good to hear that?

I went and saw the,

I went to the Jimmy Kimmel show a month or something ago,

And the guest happened to be Oprah,

Which is like pretty sweet,

But at the beginning they were like this is going to be the best show ever,

You know.

And then I talked to someone who worked there,

They're like we actually tell the audience every night it's going to be the best show ever,

Because people want to feel like they're like doing a good thing and like part of something really good,

So this is going to be the best class ever.

So you've come on a good night,

So I've been doing the chakra series,

And moving systematically up through the chakras.

I was actually away for the last two weeks,

Traveled up to Northern California,

Actually got all the way up into Oregon,

Saw the Northern Lights,

Mount Shasta for a while,

Oh no phones allowed in the studio,

It's okay I have my phone here too.

And today for the chakra series we're actually on the third eye.

The third eye is kind of like the most talked about chakra I think,

People maybe talk about the heart a lot,

But often the third eye I think is like,

When you think of a chakra it's the third eye,

Right?

It's located right here,

For those that don't know.

It's correlated to some acupuncture points that also,

Right there,

Three of them that have to do with focus.

If you're into anatomy,

The brain,

The pineal gland is located right back there,

And the pineal gland is supposedly this third eye,

There's actually,

If you look at reptiles they actually still have a lens over that part of their eye that senses light.

So there was a point in our evolution where there was an eye type structure here that was able to sense and receive light.

When you look at a lot of Indian statues,

When you see like the Buddha,

He's got kind of like a dot there often,

You know there's different places where you'll see just something here to symbolize insight,

To symbolize focus,

To symbolize concentration,

To symbolize enlightenment.

As if this eye opens up and suddenly you see everything.

Think like in one of the recent Doctor Strange movies in Marvel,

There's something there too.

So when we talk about the chakras,

The chakras,

As I mentioned in my other classes,

They're not this kind of like spiritual esoteric thing that sounds fun,

You know you go to the crystal shop and you get like the little card that says it's for the heart or something.

But when you look at the actual experience of your body,

The way that your actual body interacts with this world,

You'll notice that you have certain emotional responses that seem to house themselves in different parts of your body.

The examples I've given in the classes so far it's that,

You know when you feel nervous they say you have butterflies in the stomach,

Well the stomach is the solar plexus which has to do with the feeling of confidence or insecurity.

When we talk about love,

We say it's from the heart,

Because that's where the heart chakra is.

It really makes no sense for us to talk about love as being here.

Why is love in this,

You know,

The beating thing that pumps the blood through the body?

You know,

But it's because we experience love in this area,

Right?

Even when you're nursing a baby,

You hold it,

It's right there.

When you pray,

You put your hands right there,

That there's something special about this spot for us that connects emotionally for us.

When you think about grounding,

Right,

And you're sitting in your seat in the bottom of your spine,

Right,

This feeling of rooting and grounding.

And for the third eye,

It's the spot that if I were to say something to you that you completely thought was crap.

You would furrow your brow and look at me like,

What did he just say?

Right?

The third eye,

The seat of intuition and knowledge and openness,

Also is the seat of suspicion,

Criticism,

Doubt.

And you'll notice that when we are suspicious,

When we're being critical and we're doubting,

That we squeeze this area together for whatever reason,

Because that's where our emotional energetic center of these things are.

We often talk about our thoughts as happening here,

Because our brain is here,

I guess.

If you think about it,

If you think about,

If you think about thoughts,

Thoughts don't live anywhere,

Right?

Like just say in your mind the word chair for a second.

Just say it on repeat,

Chair,

Chair,

Chair.

And you kind of experience it here,

But it's almost like this other dimension that's just,

You're perceiving these things,

But they don't really live anywhere specifically,

You know,

But we somehow place things in that spot.

That's just how this incarnation works.

We overlay.

So this part of the head and also the brain,

It is connected to points of concentration.

As I said,

There is this old school lens that the reptiles have that we have our pineal gland.

They also say that the pineal gland is where we produce DMT,

Which is where we have kind of extraordinary visions from.

This is what happens when we're in deep sleep or even as you're dying.

They say that this is the spot that actually releases the substance that really lets the consciousness lift off of the material body and kind of go in another place.

When I meditate with the third eye,

I like to,

Because I've realized that when I'm in doubt and suspicion,

Disbelief,

That I contract this spot.

If I want to feel relaxed,

If I want to feel open,

Intuitive as it were,

I intentionally relax this area.

I relax this spot.

And as I relax,

I imagine that I'm breathing white light in and out of this spot as if I'm breathing something in and breathing something out of that spot.

And I allow myself to rest there.

I allow the spot to be open.

The third eye is a place where we also get to receive,

Right?

So the opposite of what we usually use our minds for,

One could even call it a misuse,

Is this constant barrage of thinking,

Analytical thinking that we've been trained since we were a kid.

Somehow thinking is the way to figure it all out.

But with all that noise,

When do we have time to receive?

Why is it that all these great inventors say that they came up with their idea like on the toilet or in the shower or something,

Right?

The moment where they actually stopped thinking,

The moment where they just let it all go for a second.

Why is it that we pursue activities that allow us to stop thinking?

Like meditation,

But even like watching Netflix,

Things that just allow us to stop thinking for a moment so that we can go through whatever process we have to go through.

What if thoughts were never going to solve our problems?

Let's be honest,

We're all obsessive over thinkers,

And if thoughts could solve our problems,

Our problems would already have been solved.

So what if actually it's allowing space?

What if by allowing space,

By relaxing,

By allowing just the reorganization of energy,

The processing and digesting,

Solutions and answers would come all by themselves?

Things would get figured out through us.

What if we allow ourselves to step out of the driver's seat,

To allow ourselves,

Even just for this 40 minutes of class,

To be passengers,

To see what happens,

To receive messages,

Visions,

Understandings,

Or even just to shut up for a minute,

Just to relax.

It doesn't happen when you're sleeping.

Jerry Seinfeld recently got into meditation,

Actually,

And someone asked him why,

And he stood up and pointed at his bed,

And he said,

Look at your bed when you wake up in the morning.

Does it look like something peaceful happened there?

Look at the sheets everywhere.

Does that look like that was a peaceful event that you just went through?

The only time the mind actually rests is through meditation.

It's when we allow that spaciousness just to be there and enjoy it,

And then it starts to open more and more.

So tonight's journey will be a peaceful one,

A relaxing one,

And a chance for all of us to relieve ourselves of the burdens and oppressions of the thinking mind for a moment and see what happens at that spot.

So I invite you all to close your eyes,

To get comfortable,

And turn off the lights.

Just getting into whatever position for you feels relaxed,

Feels receptive.

We're going to begin by just taking a few deep breaths in through the nose,

Down into the belly,

Out through the mouth.

One more time,

Deep in through the nose,

Down into the belly,

Filling the belly fully,

Out through the mouth together.

Good.

As you begin to relax and your body begins to soften,

You do notice how good it feels.

How good it feels to relax.

How good it feels to lay down the burdens of the day,

Of the world.

To not need to figure anything out right now.

To really allow this moment to just be for you.

To just be for you.

The opportunity to not do.

I invite you to even take a moment to feel the space around you.

You are not limited by or trapped within the body.

The conscious awareness can also reach out and unfold into the space around you.

Breathing into the space,

The spaciousness around you.

Allowing the boundaries,

Borders,

Barriers of the body to gently dissolve.

The space within you and the space around you getting to merge.

So subtle,

So soft,

So gently.

Allow yourself to expand into space.

I invite you to gently bring your awareness to the spot of the third eye.

Place between and slightly above your eyebrows.

Bring your awareness as you breathe in and out through the nose.

Allowing yourself to feel as if you are breathing in and out through the third eye itself.

Imagine a white light that flows in and out from the third eye.

Clearing.

Cleansing.

Softening.

Creating space.

Creating space for you to receive.

Visions.

Solutions.

Perspectives.

As you breathe this white light into the third eye.

It travels inward,

Activating the pineal gland of the brain.

Just intending for this to happen is enough.

As you breathe out through the third eye,

You begin to let go.

This white light flows into the entire brain.

Calming.

Bringing lightness,

Clearness.

It happens automatically,

All by itself.

Allowing the mind to wander.

Releasing your grip.

The thoughts can think themselves.

Connecting to the front of the third eye.

Feeling as if a finger was just gently touching that point.

A slight tingling,

Slight pressure,

Slight lightness.

Relaxing.

Into the third eye.

Of everything.

Allowing.

This activation of the third eye.

Opening yourself to receiving.

Any visions.

Visions for yourself,

For your life.

For the deeper parts of you want to show yourself.

And also being available.

To breathe white light into the third eye.

To simply rest.

What if your third eye could connect up to the sky above this building?

To the space beyond that?

What if your third eye could connect out to the stars?

To the very edges of the universe.

As you breathe in,

You receive.

Whatever it is you need the most in this moment.

Pulling it in through the third eye.

As you breathe out.

Releasing all thought patterns,

Structures,

Beliefs,

Limitations that no longer serve your highest good.

Breathing in,

Receiving.

Breathing out,

Freeing and releasing.

Allowing this process.

To begin to settle.

Any last transitions.

Receiving,

Releasing.

Giving ourselves permission.

For simple,

Effortless rest.

Recognizing the process continues in subtler ways.
