You may often wonder,
Why does life seem to carry this sense of urgency?
Is it purely because a culture,
An environment is dictating so?
We have learned that productivity is the only solution to our problems.
So we spend a lot of time on autopilot,
Getting from one thing to the next.
But have you ever wondered where the real answer to your life lives?
We're going to be exploring that today.
We're going to be breaking from the trance.
You wake up every morning,
Consciousness streaming into your body.
And yet,
We interact this lovely loving relationship by fixating on what it's doing that day.
By pausing and coming back to the body,
You get to meet the subtle sensations that past experience have been storing within your body.
Perhaps old knots that are desperate for the gentle touch.
So if you haven't already,
Please close your eyes.
And feel your body in space.
Now bring your attention to your breath.
Anchoring into the present moment.
And we're going to be counting the breath.
We're going to be counting the breath four seconds in.
Six second hold.
And eight seconds out.
We're breathing this way to stimulate the vagus nerve.
So when you're ready,
Let's exhale together.
Inhale for four.
Hold for six.
Exhale for eight.
Inhale for four.
Hold for six.
Exhale for eight.
Inhale for four.
Hold for six.
Exhale for eight.
Inhale for four.
Hold for six.
Exhale for eight.
Now two more rounds on your own.
Now just come back to your normal breathing.
No need to control it in any way.
Just let it flow in and out.
And now see if you can take the background seat.
Be the observer.
The one who is watching.
Continue to sense your breath in the background.
Are you also aware of a space around you?
Stay in this space for a few more moments.
There is no need for you to get anywhere.
No rush.
Nothing to do.
Continue to be the observer of your own life.
I'm going to disclose a secret.
Without that discomfort,
You would not be here.
The difficult moments in life are the ones that lead us to the biggest changes.
They are opportunities to awaken,
To be free.
Going through the pain is much more than courage.
It takes compassion towards oneself.
Being in a trance or awakening from the trance are both natural stages.
It's the mistaken perception of who we think we are that is causing difficulty.
Alice Walker writes,
The most common way people give up the power is by thinking they don't have any.
We unbecome the agency by returning to our bodies.
Now slowly feel your body in space.
Wiggle your fingers and toes.
And very slowly open your eyes.
Thank you for meditating with me today.
