Good evening my friend.

For tonight's meditation we're going to go through a simple visualization exercise where we're going to imagine a beautiful island to help us drift off to sleep.

There's a small island off the west coast of Canada called Salt Spring Island.

It's a beautiful forested rocky island where the weather is cool and the trees are abundant.

As I describe it to you,

I invite you to get comfy and cozy in your bed and allow yourself to drift off to sleep.

So make sure you have your favorite pillow and snuggle up in just the position you like and feel free to close your eyes if you like.

You're riding the ferry from the mainland.

It's only about a half an hour ride.

You've decided to take a seat on the bow of the boat so you can watch the island you are traveling to slowly become larger as the ferry grows closer.

The weather is cool but not too cold and there's a steady headwind on the bow of the boat as it skims across the sea.

There are some metal benches for people to sit in and you decide to stand at the railing of the boat so that you can see the water rushing past below.

You look down at the water and hear the sounds of the ocean lapping at the side of the ferry.

The wind is slightly salty and refreshing,

Catching your clothes and making them dance on your body.

The hum of the ferry engines is loud yet calming.

There are people sitting on the benches enjoying food and conversation as they watch the very same scene as you.

A few kids are enjoying the ride much more than anyone else,

Pointing and smiling and laughing during the entire ride.

You think you notice something in the water on the starboard side of the ferry and the kids seem to have noticed it too because they're looking in astonishment.

As you move closer to the starboard side to get a better view you notice there's a pod of dolphins leaping out of the water.

Swimming parallel to the ferry almost as if to say they're enjoying the same ride as we are.

Almost as if to say welcome to Salt Spring Island.

As the sun is setting and the moon is rising you can see the sun on the horizon of one side of the ship and the moon on the horizon on the other side of the ship.

This sunset just may be the most beautiful view you've ever seen in your life.

You turn your attention back to the dolphins and you notice that pretty much the entire population of people on the ship are now right where you are looking at the same thing you're looking at standing at the rails watching the dolphins play.

And you take a moment just to bask in the glory of the moment These humans and these dolphins are sharing this space of love and peace and joy.

The breeze blowing and the salty smell of sea in the air only to be replaced by the sound of the air only seems to enhance the serenity of the moment.

And after a few minutes of just astonishment the beauty of these dolphins they decide to move on and head underwater into deeper oceans.

And you return your attention once again to the sunset just enjoying the moment of being able to see the sun on one side of the ship and the moon on the other.

Taking a moment just to be enveloped by wonder at the beauty and just the sheer unlikeliness of this event even occurring.

Just allowing yourself to be embraced by awe and wonder.

And you take a moment just to admire the beauty of the other islands you can see in the Georgia Strait.

Covered in gorgeous mountains and majestic trees and some of the most picturesque and idyllic houses on the coasts.

And each house seems to have its own personal dock.

And take a moment just to marvel at how incredible it would be to see this view every day.

And now you take a moment just to be mesmerized by the cutting of the water the bow of the ship makes.

As it progresses forward you watch as the sea seems to split the bow of the boat.

And you watch as the water rushes past on either side of the ship.

And as you look up,

Return your attention to the island you are headed towards.

You notice the island is growing larger and larger in your sight,

Slowly over time.

And as you get closer you start to make out some of the glorious,

Beautiful,

Wonderful,

Twisty,

Red arbutus trees.

These are some of the most unique trees you've ever seen in your life.

The papery red bark wrapping around the white inside of the tree.

Seems almost unrealistic.

And the twisty,

Tangly,

Turny nature of the branches.

Seems like something that can only exist in an imaginary fairy tale land.

Seems like something that can only exist in an imaginary fairy tale land.

And these trees perched high on the cliffs of the rocky terrain seem as if they're looking out over the ocean.

And just at complete calm and peace as they seem to just enjoy the same view.

As you are enjoying yourself.

It's as though while you are looking and admiring the tree,

The tree is also overlooking the ocean,

The sunset,

And the fairy admiring you.

And as you take a moment to acknowledge your gratitude for this moment,

It feels almost as though the rocks,

And the hills,

And the trees,

And the cliffs are all sharing in that gratitude with you.

Are all sharing in that gratitude with you.

And as you get closer,

The island continues to get larger.

And you begin to see more of the beautiful houses also perched up high on the cliffs,

Right on the coast.

Many of these houses look like quaint cottages up on the tops of cliffs.

Many of them have stairs down to the water to dock below.

And as the fairy begins to approach the dock,

You are struck with the realization that in a very short amount of time,

You are going to be on this island.

This unbelievably breathtaking island.

And as you are pondering this,

A voice comes on the loudspeakers of the fairy telling the foot passengers to head to the deck below,

To walk off the fairy.

So you begin to make your way to the stairs that will take you down to the lower deck.

And you and a handful of other people are heading down the stairs together.

And once you reach the lower deck,

You head back to the bow of the ship.

And you watch as the off-ramp gets closer and closer.

And for a moment,

It almost feels like the fairy is going to hit.

It doesn't.

It doesn't.

And as crew members and life jackets make sure that the area is roped off and safe so you couldn't fall in the water,

Another crew member pushes a big green button on a panel on the other side of the rope.

And the ramp is flipped up,

Protecting us from falling in the water.

Begins to lower.

And the ramp lowers into perfect place,

Joining the fairy and the road in front.

And as two of the crew members remove the rope,

Another crew member indicates with a hand gesture that we can all disembark from the fairy now.

And as we walk toward the opening at the mouth of the fairy,

All the crew members smile and wave as if to invite us out of one adventure and into the next.

And as you make it to the road in front of you,

You decide that a change of plans is in order.

You had planned to take the bus into town.

And yet now,

You feel like you just want to sit on the shore for a moment.

There will be another bus come by in about an hour.

And as you make your way out of the bus,

You realize that you've made it to the right of the fairy terminal.

To your right is the cutest little fairy terminal building you've ever seen.

And straight ahead of you,

And to your left,

Are two different paths.

One going along the edge of another forested area and along the coast.

And you decide to take the path on the left.

And perhaps you can find one of those beautiful Arbutus trees on the top of a cliff overlooking the ocean.

And after walking along the path for not too long of a time,

You find the perfect rock atop the perfect cliff right underneath the most majestic Arbutus tree.

And you sit in this uncanny,

Perfectly chair-shaped rock right at the base of your new companion,

The Arbutus tree.

Then you begin to lean against the Arbutus tree,

Looking out at the ocean that you were just on.

Looking out at the ocean that you were just on.

As you lean against the tree and gaze out upon the moonlight glimmering on the sea,

You feel completely relaxed.

Relaxing your body,

Surrounded by the majesty around you,

And just thinking about how grateful and content you are in this moment.

The surface of the ocean looks like it's covered in diamonds,

Shimmering in the light.

The way the moonlight is hitting it from one side,

And what's left of the sunlight hitting it from the other side.

And as you gaze out,

You allow your eyes to gently close now.

You allow your eyes to gently close now,

Looking forward to the day ahead.

Drifting deeper and deeper into relaxation.

Thank you for meditating with me tonight,

My dear friend.

Good night,

And sleep wonderfully.
