Shift Your Vision, Lift Your Spirit: Perspective Reset
"Look & It Shall Lift". When you are in a challenging place, it can be really hard to remember that we are being prepared for growth. Let this be a reminder for you to orient yourself and be anchored as much as possible in the goodness and wealth of your own being.

Whatever pushes you,
Let it do so with a gracious sigh of thanks.
Fruit,
My dear one,
Is labored for.
You are being kissed by the ripening and relentless heat of the sun.
When we are in a challenging place,
It can be really hard to remember that we are being kissed by the relentless heat of the sun,
That in some way we are going to harvest and grow fruit from this place.
The older I get,
The more I come to understand that this is true.
But the most important thing I've come to learn when suffering or challenge comes up for me is to orient myself in the direction of my heart,
Myself,
My root,
So to remain as anchored as possible in the goodness and the wealth of my being.
Otherwise,
We can get very lost in our suffering and forget there's something good being revealed,
Something bigger being opened,
Just like the diamond is compressed.
The same is so for us,
But we really have to shift and ground ourselves in order to really be able to sit comfortably in the uncomfortable place,
To comfort the uncomfortable.
We are going to practice sitting in a place of acceptance today.
If there's anything hard for you happening in this moment,
Whether significant or not so significant,
We are going to teach our bodies how to respond in a way that really activates a higher state of understanding and consciousness and awareness.
And we are going to learn to really lift our faces toward the sun that's beating down on us so intensely.
I love the story of the little chick in the egg,
And the only reason that he bothered to peck through the shell was because he could feel and sense the light on the other side.
Let's ground down into our bodies now,
Even if it feels hard,
Even if it feels scary or fraught.
We are going to orient ourselves to the immovable in us.
First by arriving in a comfortable position,
Coming to close our eyes,
Then coming to find the wind,
The breath,
The current of life running through us,
No matter the territory or the landscape we are standing in.
Feeling the breath on our nostrils,
The quiet and subtle rising and falling of life within our chest,
Really recognizing it as a friend,
A reliable companion maybe,
Accompanying us through everything we go through.
This is here for us.
Stable,
Accountable,
Breathing in,
I am aware of my in-breath,
And breathing out I am aware of my out-breath.
In-breath,
Out-breath.
In-breath,
Out-breath.
This is the first step in orienting ourselves toward what is immovable in us,
To find and connect with the current of our breathing.
There may be great fear,
Great pain,
Grief,
Whatever feels hard for you,
Notice that swirls in front of you,
But the breath that sits in you,
Watching,
Feeling,
Seeing,
Our struggles and our strife are often somewhere in front of us,
Products of the mind,
Products of thought.
Many spiritual teachers compare it to a movie screen,
Our life projected in front of us on a giant screen and we the ones watching,
And gradually we gain a little distance,
Even if it's just a small centimeter.
We use the breath to pull back from the swirling stories of our discomfort and distress.
Breathing in,
I am aware of my in-breath.
Breathing out,
I am aware of my out-breath.
I find the greatest way to quiet the storm of my suffering is to really identify what I have been resisting.
The mind is often so busy telling a story,
Screaming it so loudly,
But we're not listening.
We're not really listening.
Look and it shall lift dear one.
If you'd like to bring up something that may be uncomfortable for you right now,
Something you feel able to hold for a moment,
I invite you to bring it forward in front of you on your movie screen.
Give it a name.
If it's vague or opaque,
You can just say,
Fear,
Even if you don't know what it's from.
And just say,
I see you fear.
I see you and I allow you.
You are welcome here.
You may sing your song and dance your dance.
It is alright.
Just create a little space for it to express itself.
Feeling whatever you need to feel in this moment knowing that your breath is holding you,
Knowing the long line of humanity that has come before you,
These innate capabilities to withstand and to feel,
Knowing you have access to great strength.
Look and it shall lift,
Even if just an inch.
This practice is really about growing a strong spine,
A type of fearlessness in the face of even our greatest fears.
We watch and we breathe.
We name and we accept.
And it's in this way that we free these things from running wild within us.
I tell my son a story about a little boy who had a dream each night that a monster was chasing him.
And one night the little boy chose to turn and face the monster instead of run.
And as soon as he faced the monster,
It disappeared.
This is how we face our monsters,
How we build the strength of acceptance,
Peace,
Welcoming.
And in doing this we create a state of inner hospitality.
And let's anchor into our breath again,
Focusing on this quiet,
Benevolent and generous engine,
The quiet companion of our breath.
And we allow us to remember how strong we are,
How capable we are.
And we lift our face now up toward the sky,
Toward the sun,
Toward the light,
As a gesture of surrender,
Of our willingness.
And we hand over anything that feels tight and hard,
Knowing that just as the plum grows from green to deep purple,
We too are being kissed by the sun in this moment,
Transforming from something hard to something very soft and sweet.
And slowly let your body recognize the feeling of letting go,
Of looking up and handing over.
Finding your breath again,
Breathing in and breathing out.
May you accept whatever comes to your door,
Dear one.
May you grow in strength and courage.
May you always know your root.
And may you face toward the light even when there is dark.
Fruit is labored for.
And whenever you are ready,
Just open your eyes and come back into this room.
And just find a little gratitude for the courage you just exhibited.
I invite you to use this practice whenever you are feeling stressed or as if there is a monster chasing you that you can't seem to outrun.
And just take the moment to turn toward what is immovable in you,
Your breath,
So that you may come to learn to dance beside these things,
Acknowledging and recognizing the goodness that is being born from this place as well.
Thank you for taking the time to practice with me today.
Be well.

I was feeling kind of stuck this morning. Been feeling stressed from a lot of changes happening at one time. Feeling tired and irritable, fatigued. I realize I am moving out of my comfort zone. I'm thankful for the perspective that we labor for our fruit. I'm proud how I am handling these new challenges, like just being diagnosed with diabetes. Im grateful to be on this new journey to improve my health. Im pacing myself. Using the tools from within and from others. Thank you so much Sarah for this wonderful perspective. Blessings...
