Hello friend.
Welcome to Authoring Hope.
The Coffee Shop Sessions.
There's something I love about sitting in the familiar atmosphere of a coffee shop.
The quiet conversations,
The background noise.
The warmth of a drink in your hands.
And the feeling that life is moving around you while you take a moment to pause within it.
These sessions are designed to help you sink into that pause and claim it.
And invite you to write a little with a space to reflect,
To breathe,
To journal.
And to reconnect with yourself for a little while.
I'll gently guide you through each session with prompts,
Reflections and writing exercises.
Designed to help you find a little clarity.
Process your thoughts.
And explore what's happening beneath the surface.
And while I loved this idea of a coffee shop.
You really can do this anywhere.
A quiet room at home.
Park bench,
A train journey.
Or a cosy corner of a library.
The important thing is simply this.
You're choosing to pause intentionally.
So wherever you are and whatever's in your cup.
I'm really glad you're here.
Our journey today is one that I have called Lantern.
To help show the way when we feel lost.
Take your time to gather your hot drink and find a place to sit.
This journey is intended for perhaps moments when life feels foggy.
When decisions feel heavy.
And when we cannot quite see what comes next.
A lantern does not illuminate a whole path.
Only the next few steps.
And today.
.
.
That is enough.
And that is our journey.
Take a sip of your drink and savour its taste.
If you're comfortable to do so where you are.
Place a hand upon your heart.
Take a slow and easeful breath in.
And a slow and easeful breath out.
Useful inhales,
Useful exhales.
We may be aware.
Of things that feel a little tangled within us.
And we cannot force clarity.
But we're here to create a little space for when it is ready to arrive.
And when you feel ready to do so,
You can take up your pen as we explore our first writing prompt.
Which is,
Where in my life do I currently feel lost or uncertain?
You might name any confusion.
Any tension.
Any sense of a crossroads.
For five minutes will write where in my life do I currently feel lost or uncertain.
As we come to the end of our five minutes,
You can finish up any thoughts or words or sentences.
Our second writing prompt.
What has helped me through difficult seasons before.
What has helped me through difficult seasons before.
This might be people who have supported you.
Things that have grounded you.
Or strengths that appeared within you.
Will explore wisdom we've already earned.
Our second prompt for five minutes.
What has helped me through difficult seasons before?
As we come to the close of our second writing prompt.
Our third prompt.
Once more for five minutes.
What is one small next step?
I already know I need to take them.
What is one small next step,
I already know I need to take.
We don't need the entire plan,
Just the next step.
The email.
A conversation,
A rest,
A boundary.
A beginning.
You might write about why it matters.
For five minutes.
What is one small next step I already know I need to take?
Taking our time as we come to the close of those five minutes.
You can take a pause here if you'd like to enjoy some of your drink or to have a little stretch or a wiggle.
As we approach our deeper dive writing task.
You'll have eight minutes here.
And I'll invite you to write a conversation.
Between yourself.
And a wise inner guide.
This inner guide might be your older or younger self.
A mentor.
An inner sense of wisdom or intuition.
Try not to overthink it.
Will take 8 minutes just to see what emerges.
Write a conversation.
Between your cell.
And a wise inner guide.
You you As we come to the close of our writing task,
You can finish up.
Any words or sentences you like?
You are welcome to take as long as you like.
To look back over what you've written today.
You might underline or write down a sentence or a phrase from what you've written that you'd like to remember this week.
It might be something grounding or clarifying or kind.
This image of the lantern does not remove the dark.
But it does help us keep moving forwards.
Thank you for sharing these moments with me.
I hope this session gave you a little space to pause amidst the familiar hum of life.
A quiet moment to gather your thoughts.
Conjure new ideas.
And let plans gently brew.
Farewell for now.
And until next time.
Keep writing.
Keep reflecting.
And keep authoring hope.
