So at the sound of the bell just go ahead and close down the eyes or find a soft gaze.
The intention of this practice is to release some of the energies of the day,
Downregulate the nervous system,
Perhaps creating a nice entry into sleep.
Just notice your body and just go ahead and make yourself just a little bit more comfortable as you create this beautiful soft resting space as best you can,
Giving yourself permission to let go of the doing of the day,
Entering into just rest and relaxation.
There's really no need to figure anything out or worry about the next day as we're done for the day.
We've accomplished and done enough.
I'm just letting the body relax a bit more as I say those words,
Maybe rest a little heavier in the space,
Maybe promoting a bit more stillness in the body.
So in the intention to release a bit of energy that still may be held in the body,
Just going ahead and bringing your attention to your feet and with very little effort just bringing a bit of energy into the feet by scrunching up the toes and then releasing the feet down,
Perhaps feeling more deeply into the place that the feet rest and then allowing this activated energy to fill up the legs by squeezing the thighs together,
The buttocks and then letting the body relax and letting go throughout the legs.
When you're ready,
Gently just scrunching up the belly,
Contracting a bit and then letting the body and belly expand for the release,
The softening of the belly.
Next activating the shoulders and chest,
Squeezing the breastbone a bit inward and then letting the breastbone relax and releasing the energy out,
Back and down and bringing energy into the arms and the hands and fingertips,
Making a soft fist and then releasing the arms and the hands and the fingertips,
Letting them hang heavy at your sides and lastly bringing energy into your lips and face and eyes and cheeks,
Relaxing your face,
Releasing any energy there as you soften.
When you're ready just sensing the whole body resting here,
Being held by gravity,
Sensing the heaviness of the bones and muscles,
Relaxation and stillness and connecting in with the breath wherever you feel it most distinctly,
Best you can riding the natural rhythm of the breath,
Noticing the inhale and the exhale,
Riding this wave of the breath,
Its own continuous rhythm,
Feeling deeply present with the breath,
Intimate,
Body resting here,
Allowing this breath to flow smoothly and freely throughout the body and just noticing where your mind is now if it's not there already just gently bringing it back to the breath.
If thoughts do arise just let them be,
No need to make up stories or follow a thought,
Just re-arriving on the felt sense of this body breathing,
Connection to the wave of the breath,
Arising and dissolving all on its own,
Nothing you need to do or figure out,
Just allowing the body to rest,
Receive this next breath,
Soft tender focus on the breath,
Its own natural rhythm like a wave on the ocean,
Gentle ebb and flow of the breath,
Arising and dissolving all on its own,
Just this breath.
