My mystical forest.

In the quiet moments before sleep,

The mind often wanders through the day's events,

Replaying conversations,

Decisions and experiences.

Yet nestled within the intricate workings of the brain,

A delicate dance unfolds,

Leading us from the waking world to the realm of dreams.

This dance is orchestrated by brainwaves,

Those tiny electrical impulses that guide our thoughts,

Feelings and states of consciousness.

Welcome to soft words for sleep.

As you lie in bed,

Taking a moment to notice how your body breathes,

Imagine your brain as a symphony orchestra,

Each section playing its unique part in perfect harmony.

The day begins with a brisk,

Lively tempo of beta waves.

These dominate when we wake and get engaged in activities that require thinking,

Problem solving and decision making.

Beta waves,

With their fast frequency,

Help us stay alert and focused.

They are the musical notes of our daily life,

Driving our productivity and keeping us grounded in reality.

But as evening approaches and the day winds down,

The symphony within our heads begins to shift.

The conductor lowers the baton,

And the fast pace of beta waves give way to the slower,

More rhythmic alpha waves.

These waves emerge when we are relaxed,

But still awake,

Often during moments of quiet reflection or gentle daydreaming.

Alpha waves are the lullaby of the brain,

Soothing us with their calming rhythm and preparing us for the transition into a restful night's sleep.

As you continue to notice your body breathing at its own rate and rhythm,

Imagine the gentle ebb and flow of alpha waves washing over your mind,

Like the soft lapping of waves on a tranquil shore.

Buoyed by the rhythmic rise and fall of theta waves.

Your mind feels light and unburdened,

Free to explore the depths of imagination and memory.

This state of mind is deeply restorative,

Allowing the brain to process feelings,

Consolidate memories and rejuvenate itself for the day ahead.

I choose to float in a gentle,

Turquoise ocean surrounding me,

Within me.

I choose to explore the depths of imagination,

Where all good things take place.

I choose to restore my body,

Rejuvenating myself as I drift away.

As you sink deeper into sleep,

The final wave in this symphony emerges,

Delta waves.

These are the slowest and most powerful rainwaves,

Dominating during the deep stages of sleep.
