Details

Satkāra is an intimate six day immersion where you are invited to honour and tend— to step out of the noise and into a space where you can meet yourself exactly as you are, with tenderness, presence, and care. Held in the peaceful valley of the Serra Vida retreat centre in Portugal, this retreat offers a spacious container for 8–10 participants to explore life itself as ceremony and living ritual. Through the devotional pathways of Yoga from the Sri Vidya lineage, yoga nidra, mantra and daily embodied practices, we'll re-weave reverence, beauty, wonder, and awe into the fabric of our days. This is not a retreat of striving or intense schedule, but one of deep rest, remembrance, and reconnection with/ to the nurturing energy of the Mother. Together we'll soften into quiet and subtle conversation of life and rediscover our ordinary moments as sacred.

Location

Santo António das Areias, Portugal

Santo António das Areias is a small parish in the municipality of Marvão in the Alentejo region of Portugal, near the Spanish border. It is set in a quiet rural landscape characterized by rolling hills, cork oak forests, olive groves, and traditional stone houses. The area has a slow, peaceful rhythm of life and is closely connected to nature, making it feel secluded and restorative. Nearby, the historic hilltop town of Marvão adds cultural and architectural interest with its medieval castle and panoramic views over the Serra de São Mamede. The region is well suited for nature-based retreats, hiking, and quiet reflection, with a mild climate and wide-open countryside that emphasizes simplicity and space.

The yoga hall is one of our most beautiful spots on the land, perched on top of the valley with breathtaking views and a beautiful deck to lounge on before and after class. With 88m2, this sustainable and environmentally friendly structure offers space to practice with groups of up to 30 people and is equipped with industry-standard yoga equipment and props. Maduka yoga mats, heavy organic cotton blankets, organic bolsters, and meditation pillows, as well as a Bose sound system, offer the best possible practice environment, while a constant airflow in the space makes it fresh during hot days. Beyond the facts, the energy and view are truly magic, and the smell of wood, eucalyptus, and pine trees that surround the space will stay with you long after your practice. Built without foundation, this impermanent structure can be unbuilt within a day and lives up to the strict regulations of the national park and municipality, which we are proud to support in the protection of the beautiful nature we live in.

Testimonials

Practice with Chrissie truly feels like a journey back home. She helped me to reconnect with my inner light and I will be forever grateful to her for making me feel good about myself. We had the most nourishing retreat for both, mind and body. And the permission to let go and take care of ourselves. I experienced both: deep relaxation and empowering strength. How sweet is that?! Chrissie weaved so much knowledge, passion and love into every perfectly curated practice. She created a safe and playful space to open up to the gifts of yoga, breath and rest. I felt held and nurtured by her beautiful energy she cultivated so well in our group practice, and by the soothing sound of her harmonium. What really amazed me is Chrissie’s poetic grace and her spiritual clarity. Even though I am not a native English speaker, I understood every word of wisdom she so generously shared and have internalised her teachings with every fibre of my being. I will forever cherish our heartfelt conversations and deep belly laughs. Please, practice with Chrissie, it’s pure joy!

Chrissie’s retreat “The Journey Home” far exceeded my expectations. Her knowledge of samkhya philosophy is extensive and she uses this to underpin daily practices that stretch far beyond asana. The retreat allowed every participant to use yoga’s wisdom as a method of self-enquiry, so we could gently let go of anything that was not working in our day-to-day life. Through asana, pranayama, meditation, kirtan and ceremony we delved deep to connect, reflect and release. I left the retreat having shed a few skins.

I had the pleasure to attend one of Chrissie’s retreats, organized in Corfu in collaboration with Sudhir Rishi and INEA yoga. For me yoga means the safe space in which you discover yourself. Chrissie has a very nurturing, grounding, loving and supporting energy which helped me to get in tune with my body, my soul, my inner self. She is a great facilitator for creating an environment in which you feel safe. Grateful for all the practices and the time spent we spent together.
