Understanding our suffering practice.

Let yourself settle into the sensations in your body.

Feel the breath flow through the area of your heart ever so gently.

Let me say this again.

Let yourself settle into the sensations in your body.

Feel the breath flow through the area of your heart ever so gently.

Let me say this once again.

Let yourself settle into the sensations in your body.

Feel breath flow through the area of your heart ever so gently.

Let yourself feel the sensations in your heart that accompany the hurt you may be feeling about the suffering in our world.

Let yourself sense any tightness or contraction,

Ache or numbness.

Acknowledge your current feelings with gentle kindness and warmth.

With the in-breath wish yourself well.

With the out-breath let breath wash through you.

Notice what the atmosphere of anxiety and insecurity may have unearthed.

Old sentiments about foreboding forces in the world or an atmosphere of gloominess from your childhood.

With the in-breath send well wishing to your current self.

With the out-breath send well wishing to the child you were in the past.

Allow breath like a luminous river wash through you.

Now bring your attention to the current dilemma in your life.

Acknowledge your painful feelings of insecurity,

Frustration,

Shame or the fear of being left out once again.

Feel the rawness of your heart and allow breath to wash through you ever so gently.

With the in-breath wish yourself well.

With the out-breath allow healing to occur.

Allow yourself to stay with the felt sense of those tender emotions.

Allow breath like a luminous river to wash through you.
