Laying still.
Eyes closed.
And the mind keeps moving away.
The body says it is tired,
But the thoughts don't agree yet.
They keep circling the conversation from earlier,
The list for tomorrow.
Something small that shouldn't matter this much at midnight.
Underneath it,
A low hum of anxiety,
Quiet but persistent,
The kind that doesn't announce itself loudly.
It just keeps the body a degree too alert to fully let go.
This is what it feels like.
When the nervous system hasn t caught up with the day ending.
There's a reason for this,
And it isn't a lack of tiredness.
The nervous system reads the world as it is safe or unsafe,
Moment to moment,
All day long.
By the time night arrives,
Some of that alertness stays switched on,
Still scanning,
Still waiting for a signal that says it's safe to let go.
Tonight,
That signal comes from the breath and from the vagus nerve.
The long pathway running from the brain down through the chest and the gut.
Quietly steering the body between alert and at ease.
Guided back down.
One signal at a time.
And sleep meets you there naturally.
My name is Rasa.
And I record these sessions.
To help the body find its way back to rest,
Gently,
Night after night.
Whatever the day carried.
Whatever kept the mind busy long after it should have quieted.
This space holds room for it tonight.
This session moves slowly on purpose.
The body settles first.
The breath finds a steady rhythm next,
Gently without force.
And a slow journey through the body,
From the feet to the crown of the head,
Carries you the rest of the way towards sleep.
There is nothing to remember here.
And nothing to follow perfectly.
Simply let the voice lead the way.
And let the body do what it already knows how to do.
The way it has every night before this one.
Before any of this begins,
One thing is worth saying clearly.
The breath doesn't need managing tonight.
If it feels shallow,
That's fine.
If it feels uneven or catches or wanders somewhere else entirely,
That is fine too.
There is no version of tonight's breath that counts as wrong.
Whatever shows up in the version that's needed right now.
And that is already enough to begin.
Nothing here is a task to complete.
It's simply an invitation.
And the body can accept as much or as little of it as it wants tonight.
Feel the weight of the body.
Against the mattress.
The shoulders heavy.
The spine long and supported.
The legs sinking slightly deeper with every breath that leaves.
Let gravity do the collecting.
Drawing the weight of the day down and out through the mattress.
The way water finds its way down a slope.
Without any effort at all.
Nothing to hold on to.
Nothing to keep upright anymore.
The body has permission to stop working for the night.
And to let the bed carry all of it instead.
With every exhale.
Sink a little further.
The mattress rising slightly to meet the body.
The body settling slightly deeper to meet the mattress.
Until there is no more distance between the two.
No part of the body needs to hold its own shape right now.
The arms can rest exactly where they land.
The legs can fall slightly open or stay however they are.
There is no correct position for this.
Only the one the body has already chosen.
Now,
Without changing anything.
Notice the breath exactly as it moves right now.
Not deeper.
Not slower.
Just notice.
The way a wave is noticed rolling in.
Without anyone telling it how to roll.
Air arriving at the nose.
Cool on the way in.
Air leaving.
A little warmer on the way out.
A small rhythm running quietly underneath everything else.
The one thing that's been steady all day long.
Simply ride it for a few moments.
The way a single frequency runs underneath a piece of music.
Easy to miss and always there.
There is nothing to adjust.
And do nothing to improve.
This rhythm has carried the body through every hour of today already.
Without needing a single instruction.
Notice where it moves the body most.
Maybe high in the chest.
Maybe low in the belly.
Maybe both at once.
One gentle rise and fall.
Over and over.
Patient in the way nothing else today has been.
In a moment.
That rhythm shifts gently.
Into something a little more deliberate.
Breathing in for a count of four.
1,
2,
3,
4 and releasing that breath slowly for a count of 6.
2 3 4 5 6 That longer exhale is the part that matters most.
It's the signal the vagus nerve is listening for,
The cue that tells the whole nervous system it is safe to shift out of alert.
And into rest.
Breathing in again for four.
1.
.
.
2 3 4 and releasing longer for 6 1 2 3 4.
2 3 4 5 6 Continue that rhythm a little longer.
At a comfortable pace.
N44 out for 6.
Each exhale drawing the body one degree closer to sleep.
In 2 3 4 and out 2 3 4 5 6.
One more round.
In 2 3 4 and out.
Releasing slowly.
2 3 4 4 5 6 And one final round,
At whatever pace feels natural now.
In 2 3 4 and out longer 2 3 4 5 6 letting that longer exhale.
Settle the whole body.
A little further.
Into the mattress each time.
And now let that counting fall away completely.
No more numbers to follow.
No more rhythm to keep.
The breath returns to whatever pace feels natural.
However that looks tonight.
Notice how much steadier that natural rhythm feels now.
Compared to where it started.
Slower maybe.
Deeper maybe.
Or simply quieter.
Less effortful.
Moving through a body that has already begun collecting itself into stillness.
There is nowhere else this breath needs to go.
It has already done its work.
Opening a door the rest of the body can now walk through.
Let a few quiet breaths pass here.
On Hari.
Unnoticed almost.
The way rain settles once a storm has passed.
Still falling.
Just softer now.
From here.
Let attention travel slowly through the body.
Starting at the feet.
And rising all the way to the crown of the head.
Bring attention to the feet.
Notice them exactly as they are right now.
Resting at the end of the mattress.
Any tension held in the toes,
In the arches,
In the heels.
Breathe into that space gently.
Letting the next inhale travel all the way down to the feet.
And on the exhale.
Let them soften.
Let the feet grow heavy,
Loose,
Unnecessary to hold in any particular shape.
If nothing releases right away,
That is fine too.
The noticing alone is enough for now.
Moving up to the ankles and calves.
Feel whatever is present there,
Tightness or ease,
Warmth or simply the weight of the blanket.
Breathe into the calves,
Drawing the next breath down through the legs.
And on the exhale.
Let them lengthen slightly.
Sinking a little further into the mattress.
Up into the knees and thighs.
Large muscles often carry more of the day than realized.
Notice them now.
Exactly as they are.
Breathe into the thighs,
Into the backs of the legs.
And releasing.
Letting the thighs grow soft.
The muscles unclenching one degree at a time.
However slowly that happens.
Into the hips and lower back.
This is often where the day collects,
Low in the body.
Quiet and easy to overlook.
Breathe into the lower back.
Into the hips.
And to the base of the spine.
And on the exhale.
Let that whole region widen slightly.
The way a held stance finally rests.
Up into the abdomen.
Feel it rise gently with each inhale.
Fall gently with each exhale.
No effort required.
Just the body breathing itself.
Breathe into the belly fully.
And release slowly.
Letting the abdomen soften completely.
Undefended Aris.
Into the chest.
Notice the heartbeat here.
Steady,
Patient.
Unaffected by any of day's noise.
Breathe into the chest.
Letting the ribs expand outward gently.
And on the exhale.
Let the chest sink.
The shoulders following it downward.
Closer to the mattress than before.
Down into the hands.
And up through the arms.
Fingers,
Palms,
Wrists,
Forearms.
Wherever tension has gathered here.
Simply notice it.
Breathe into the hands,
Into the arms.
All the way up to the shoulders.
And releasing.
Let the arms grow heavy.
Resting completely.
Nothing left to carry.
Hint at the shoulders and neck.
So much of the day is held right here.
Raised without noticing.
Tight without meaning to be.
Breathe into the shoulders.
Drawing them slightly up toward the ears.
And on the exhale.
Let them drop.
Further than expected.
The neck lengthening.
As they fall.
Into the jaw and face.
The jaw often clenched without awareness.
The muscles around the eyes subtly tight from a day of focusing outwards.
Breathe into the jaw.
Letting it hang slightly open.
Gaze no longer touching.
And release everything in the face.
The forehead smoothing.
The eyes resting fully.
The whole face unguarded.
And finally,
Up into the scalp.
Feel the weight of the head against the pillow.
Fully supported.
Nothing left to hold up on its own.
Breathe into the crown of the head.
And on this final exhale,
Let the entire body settle at once.
Every part released in the same slow wave.
Collecting into one long breath.
Quiet stillness.
From here.
There is nowhere else to go.
And nothing left to do.
The nervous system has already received the message it needed tonight.
The one that says it's safe now.
Safe to let go completely.
Safe to drink.
Sleep is already close.
Let it arrive in its own time.
In its own way.
Exactly as it's needed tonight.
A body this settled has nowhere left to travel except further down.
Further in.
Further toward rest.
Let attention widen now.
Gently.
Taking in the whole body at once.
Rather than any single part of it.
Feel it as one long wave,
Rather than separate pieces.
Feet and legs and hips and chest and arms and face.
All resting inside the same slow rhythm.
All rising and falling together.
With each quiet breath.
Imagine that wave being brushed through slowly.
From the crown of the head.
All the way down to the feet.
Gathering anything left unsettled.
And drawing it gently out and away.
The way a hand moves slowly through water.
And leaves it calmer behind it.
One more pass.
From head down to the feet.
Brushing the whole body into stillness.
Collecting every last bit of tension.
And releasing it out through the mattress.
Nothing left to hold.
Nothing left to carry.
Just a body,
Fully supported,
Fully at ease,
Exactly where it needs to be tonight.
This session continues quietly from here.
Looping gently through the night.
So there's nothing left to do now but rest.
