Sit in a comfortable meditation position,
This can be sitting on the ground on a meditation cushion with their legs crossed,
Lotus pose or just like you would sit on a chair,
You can also sit on a chair,
Just sit in the most comfortable way.
Now rest the backs of the hands onto the backs of the knees,
The thumb and the forefinger gently touch,
Close your eyes,
Inhale deeply through the nose and exhale slowly.
Take two more breaths like this,
In through the nose,
Out through the nose.
Now breathe in a normal way,
Just make sure you breathe in and out through your nose.
Place both hands over the heart,
Allow your mind to become quiet and still.
If you're noticing you're becoming lost in thinking,
Become aware of the thought and then consciously let it go.
Return your awareness and attention to the feeling of your breath.
Now tune in and get in touch with your heart.
As you breathe,
Imagine that you're breathing in and out right at the center of your heart.
Ask yourself,
What do I truly desire right now?
What is in my heart?
Notice what comes up.
There is no right or wrong,
There is no other person's opinion,
It is your personal and deepest truth.
This is what your heart uniquely desires right now.
Maybe you find out that your heart has a large life-altering desire,
Something like a life purpose.
This could be your primary sankalpa.
You may also notice that your desire is smaller,
An internal goal such as inner peace or calm.
Once you have settled your sankalpa,
Bring your hands into sankalpa mudra by placing the back of the left hand over onto the right thigh with the palm facing upwards.
Then place the palm of the right hand down into the left so that both palms are gently touching.
Relax the fingers,
Relax the shoulders and relax the elbows.
Repeat your sankalpa mentally three times.
Now take a deep breath in and slowly exhale and then slowly begin to open your eyes.
Namaste.
