To do this.

I'm Pip Roberts and welcome to practice today.

This is a yoga nidra I've written specifically for the winter months.

Winter is a time where our bodies require so much more rest and so much more space to rejuvenate.

It's a time where we need to really work with our bodies to help elevate the yin energy within us,

This more restorative energy.

And yoga nidra is the perfect practice to do this.

So I'm hoping that right now you have a few pillows and a good warm blanket next to you.

If you don't,

Now is a great time to press pause and go and get some.

And if you're ready to go,

Let's find ourselves settling to the floor.

Maybe the knees bend and there's a pillow supporting the back of each knee.

It could be a pillow behind your head.

You might draw your arms away from one another so that you feel your body widen and broaden.

Your eyes are going to close softly as you draw that blanket over your whole body from your neck all the way down so that it covers your toes.

Even if right now you're warm,

You want to stay warm.

Covering yourself with a blanket.

Eyes closed.

And feeling into your body any movements that it wants to make.

Move through them.

Maybe on the other side there's stillness for you.

Let's now begin to focus on the breath.

Now we're comfortably laid.

Palms are up.

Eyes are closed.

There's a softness to your jaw so maybe the upper and the lower lip are ever so slightly apart.

And you're just breathing through your nose.

Your normal,

Regular speed breath.

And feel that breath.

Feel where it draws to.

Feel the expansion outwards of your belly as the breath first arrives there.

And then the expansion through the ribs as the breath moves up.

And then feel the body drawing smaller again through the ribs and then the belly as you exhale.

There's this expansion as you inhale and this softening,

This drawing back as you exhale.

This expander,

This expansion and contraction of your body.

Mirrored by expansion and contraction of the energy within you.

Mirrored in the seasons.

Throughout all of nature.

Expanding and contracting is what everything does.

These inhales that expand you,

They bring a positive charge of energy to the body.

A warm,

Calm energy.

And the exhales that follow them,

They release any fatigue or negativity from within.

We inhale and we charge.

And then we exhale and we release.

Finding your own rhythm with your breath.

Stay with that.

Inhales charge and the exhales release.

Visualising this positive,

Warm,

Calm energy accumulating with the breath.

So each time we inhale we charge even more.

This warm,

This calmness,

This charge.

As you continue to breathe in the same way,

Visualise a packet of this positive energy moving around the body to each body part as I call it.

Then moving it along to the next that I guide you to.

So that packet of energy moves to the right hand thumb,

Index finger,

Middle finger,

Ring finger and the little finger.

That packet of energy in the palm of the hand,

The back of the hand,

The wrist,

The lower arm,

The elbow,

The upper arm,

The right shoulder,

The armpit,

The waist,

The hip,

The thigh,

The knee.

The shin and the ankle.

The top of the right foot,

The sole of the right foot,

The big toe,

Second toe,

Third toe,

Fourth toe and the little toe.

That packet of energy in the left hand thumb,

Index finger,

Middle finger,

Ring finger and the little finger.

The palm of the hand,

The back of the hand,

The wrist,

Lower arm,

Elbow,

Upper arm.

The left shoulder,

Armpit,

The waist,

The hip,

The thigh,

The knee,

The shin and the ankle.

The top of the left foot,

The sole of the left foot,

The big toe,

Second toe,

Third toe,

Fourth toe and the little toe.

That energy in the back of the heels,

The back of the calves,

The back of the knees,

The back of the thighs,

The right buttock,

The left buttock,

The lower spine,

The right kidney,

The left kidney,

The middle spine,

The upper spine,

The right shoulder blade,

The left shoulder blade,

The back of the head,

The crown of the head,

The forehead,

The right eyebrow and the left eyebrow,

The space between the eyebrows,

The right eyelid and the left eyelid,

The right cheek,

The left cheek,

The nose,

The tip of the nose,

The upper lip,

The lower lip,

The jaw,

The chin,

The throat,

The right collarbone,

The left collarbone,

The ribs,

The belly and the abdomen.

Feel the energy in the right of the body.

Feel the energy in the left of the body.

Feel the energy in the back of the body.

Feel the energy in the front of the body.

Feel the energy in the whole body together.

Feel the energy throughout your whole body.

Each inhale brings a further charge to this energy throughout your whole body.

And exhales bring that same release.

Allow the energy to flow freely throughout your whole body.

Inhale,

Charge,

Exhale,

Release.

Inhale,

Charge,

Exhale,

Release.

Inhale,

Charge,

Exhale,

Release.

Inhale,

Charge,

Exhale,

Release.

Feel the vitality within your organs.

Feel the vitality within your tissues.

Feel the vitality within your cells.

Inhale,

Charge,

Exhale,

Release.

Inhale,

Charge,

Exhale,

Release.

Open your eyes closed.

Take any movements that your body is drawing you towards.

Let yourself expand back into your day.

Slowly,

Slowly.

Feeling your way back in.

Stay with the breath as you continue to move slowly,

Intuitively.

When you're ready,

Draw up to find yourself seated.

Now your arms to reach up as you take a really big inhale into your belly and into your chest.

And then bring your hands together as they come down.

And rub the palms together so that they begin to find warmth.

And once your palms are warm,

Place them over your eye and let that warmth sink into the tissue around your eye sockets.

Slowly blink your eyes to the side.

Slowly blink your eyes open behind your hands as you slowly draw your fingers apart and begin to let that light in.

When you're ready,

Just let your hands come,

Rest on your thighs.

Stay with that breath.

Inhale that charges you.

Exhale that releases.

Slowly,

Slowly.

Go on with your day.

Namaste.

Great nidra practice - it might have been created for winter but I found the premise of recharging and releasing perfect for me to help re-balance my energy - & even restore a little - (I have CFS/ME) even on a warm late spring day after a PEM crash. I visualised the ‘packet’ of energy as a ball of light that moved through my body and surrounded each part (for UK readers of a certain age: a bit like the ‘Ready Brek’ glow!☺️) Thank you, thank you, thank you. 🙏🏻

Very nice, thank you. Relief for my winter-weary body and mind on this first day of spring, though it'll be weeks yet where I live before the snow melts and we see the first blooms. 🌷
