In this session, we learn the power of compliments, to see that others value us, and to understand that compliments are important ways in which we can show others that we value them. The practice helps us to feel that being complementary to ourselves and others helps us feel better than being unkind.

Hi,

Welcome to Peacebeam.

Just make sure that you're sitting or lying down nice and comfortably and that you're warm enough.

When you're ready,

Just close your eyes and follow my voice for the next few minutes as we move to step one.

Notice.

And this is where we just begin to notice how we're feeling today.

We ask ourselves the question,

How am I today?

And just notice any words or feelings that come up now.

And all we're doing is noticing as we move to step two,

Breathe.

And in this part,

We bring our attention and our focus to our breath.

So just start to notice how your breath moves in and out,

Either through your nose or through your mouth.

And if you like,

You can put your hand on your chest and start to feel how your chest rises and falls as you breathe.

And just keep your attention there.

And now we're going to imagine that as your breath flows in through your nose or mouth,

It goes all the way past your lungs and into your heart.

And every time you breathe in,

Your heart lights up as if it was the sun.

And every time you breathe out,

You're breathing that beautiful golden light into the world.

And as you do this,

The rhythm of your heart and the rhythm of your breath are connecting and creating this lovely state of calm for you to be in for the next few moments as we move to step three,

Activate.

And today we're going to think about compliments.

So a compliment is when somebody says something to you that makes you feel really happy,

That makes you feel proud,

That makes you feel delighted.

It's when somebody has noticed something good about us and they have told us.

Compliments are very powerful.

They can stay with us for our whole lives.

So think about a compliment that somebody has given you and just remember now how it made you feel.

Perhaps you're smiling already thinking about it.

Just for today,

I want you to keep that compliment in your mind and to keep the feeling of happiness.

It can be hard to give other people compliments.

And sometimes we think that people already know the wonderful things that we think about them,

But really everybody has self-doubts and negative thoughts and not everybody believes or recognizes their own qualities,

At least not all of the time.

A compliment can have a wonderful ability to show us that our negative thoughts about ourselves aren't true and aren't how everybody else sees us.

Try giving yourself a compliment right now.

You see,

Giving a compliment is a wonderful gift.

So the next time you think something positive about somebody,

Maybe think about telling them.

And let's move now to step four,

Peace beam.

So that feeling,

That lovely warm glow that you feel from remembering a compliment that somebody has given to you,

That's a beautiful energy.

So for today,

I want you to imagine that every person that you meet,

You are going to beam that warm glowing energy to them.

And if you think of anything nice that you can say to that person,

Then say it.
