Imagine you are walking through a vast,
Open field of tall grass and flowers.
It is dawn,
And the sun has just peaked the horizon.
You can feel a soft breeze against your skin,
And the air is filled with a rich variety of fragrances.
You breathe in gratitude as you feel the warmth of the sun against your cheek.
And now you notice in the distance a house,
And there is something very familiar about this house.
And you change your direction of travel just a little bit because you have to go there.
As you approach the house,
You see now that this house has three levels,
Or stories.
And now you've arrived,
Standing before this house,
And you notice that there are three doors.
You are compelled to go inside,
And you choose the center door.
When you open this door,
You see in front of you a flight of stairs going up.
So up you go.
With each step it's becoming clear that this is going to take you to the middle level.
With each step going up,
A room begins to reveal itself.
It's circular-shaped,
And there are floor-to-ceiling windows,
Giving you a 360-degree view in every direction.
Looking out,
You can see the path you just walked,
Together,
Through the field.
You can also see all the people and all the situations,
All the challenges,
Joys,
Upsets in your life.
So breathe deeply,
And perhaps there is a situation out there in your life that you would like some help with,
A question or a concern you'd like to get some clarity on.
Or maybe you would just like to enjoy the view,
Feel the appreciation for the path that you've walked,
The rich tapestry of details that make up your life.
And breathe.
This moment is interrupted now by the sound of a voice,
A child's voice,
And it seems to be coming from the level below.
So you make your way back down the stairs,
Out the door.
You are outside now,
Again.
You turn to the right,
And open that door.
You step in and find yourself in what is clearly a child's room,
And it's filled with kids' stuff.
Toys,
Books,
Crayons,
Paints.
There is artwork on the walls.
Obviously done by a child,
It has that quality of abandon.
And now you notice,
Over at the window,
There is a child,
With her back to you,
Staring out the window.
You walk over,
Come down onto one knee,
And gently turn her to face you.
You are looking into the eyes of yourself as a child.
Perhaps it's been a long time since you connected with this little one inside of you.
So it's your job right now to reacquaint yourself with this inner child.
And there's nothing mysterious about this process.
It's the same as getting to know anyone.
So you ask questions,
And then you listen.
Listening is one of the most powerful things anyone can do to bond with another person.
And bonding with this little one is the goal.
Now your inner child may or may not be enthusiastic about opening up to you.
Your job is to exercise infinite patience and love.
You can invite your little one to sit on your lap,
So you can hold her.
Or maybe you want to join your inner child in play.
Whatever is going to create comfort for both of you.
The most powerful aspect of this time together is your attention.
And that attention can come without words.
So as you seek to learn about your inner child,
It may be that your inner child has concerns about what's going on in your life.
She might want to take you over to the window and point out what's bothering her.
So again,
Your main job is to understand what's going on with your inner child.
Sometimes our inner child is burdened by responsibility for a situation at work,
Another person,
An event that's upcoming.
It's your job to listen to your little one's concerns and let her know that she doesn't have to deal with it.
It's not her responsibility.
She's only a child.
And that you will take care of it.
It may take several visits before your inner child opens up to you.
Regardless,
It's important at the end of every visit to say the following,
You are perfect just the way you are.
And I will tell you that every day for the rest of our life.
You are no longer on your own.
I'm here for you.
So when the time feels right,
Say I love you and I'll see you tomorrow.
And if you need me before then,
Just call out and I'll be here.
Now go ahead and make your way back upstairs to that room that looks out on everything going on in your life.
And you'll notice a big comfy chair has materialized in the center of the room.
Maybe it's one of these chairs that rocks back and locks into position so that you're looking up at the ceiling.
And imagine the ceiling parting,
Opening up to reveal the vastness of all space.
And you breathe deeply and you connect with the energy that is everywhere.
Loving divine energy that co-creates your life and if your inner child gave you feedback that indicates you need to be doing something different,
This is the moment for you to ask for guidance.
How can I better show up day to day in my life for this creative,
Sensitive,
Powerful inner child?
If I need to be doing something different,
What might that be?
How do I proceed?
So often when we begin this inner child work,
We discover,
Oh my gosh,
I have been abandoning myself for a very long time.
Not intentionally,
But it has created a sense that there's something missing in my life.
So as we bring this meditation to a close,
Just know that real change takes place when your inner child learns to trust that you will be there listening,
Learning,
And taking action in her behalf.
God bless and light ahead.
