So let's practice settling,
Connecting.
And resourcing today.
Letting your body come to stillness.
Sensing your posture.
Perhaps giving the body some time.
To find its way into stillness.
So if there are any subtle movements or shifts that your body wants to make.
Whether it's rolling the shoulders or swaying a little from side to side or front to back.
It's rare that we go straight from movement into complete stillness,
Straight from activity into total rest.
There's always a transition.
So just inviting a mindful transition.
There's a sense of allowing things to unwind.
Quality of being held.
Letting your body feel held by the space around you.
Held by presence and care.
I'm just consciously downshifting,
So the breath is often helpful for this.
Initially letting the body breathe naturally.
Coming.
Into alignment with the breath,
Letting ourselves become aware of that rhythm.
And then slowly deepening the breath just a little bit.
Lengthening the exhalation slightly.
Perhaps allowing the inhalation to be just a little bit fuller.
Noticing any effect this might have on your nervous system.
Filling up.
And then releasing,
Letting go.
Our muscles have the capacity to loosen.
For tension to slowly release.
What's curious about this is it's not something that we do,
But rather a ceasing.
Of contraction,
Of holding.
You might imagine like a wave.
Flowing down through your body from the top of your head.
Down across your skull,
Your forehead,
Your eyebrows and eyes.
Nose,
Cheeks,
Side,
And back of the skull.
Jaw,
The lips,
The occipital joint,
Just imagining all of the muscles and tissues.
Gently.
Releasing.
Whatever tension or tightness is happening there.
Those muscles could stop firing.
Soften a bit.
Imagine that wave just continuing down through your throat and your neck.
Down into your upper chest,
Your shoulders,
Upper back.
As things soften.
And if you're just imagining the slightest shift,
The body begins to get heavier.
There's a sense of connecting with the ground more.
As we release and hold less,
We let the body be held and supported by the ground.
Letting that wave move down through the arms and the torso.
Just softening,
Letting go.
Down into the hands.
Abdomen,
Lower back,
And pelvis.
Down through your upper legs.
Front and back into the knees.
Softening down through the shins,
Your calves,
Into the ankles.
The tops,
Sides,
And soles of the feet.
Giving the weight of your body to the ground.
Healing the points of contact.
Letting it be heavy,
Letting it rest.
Can you be aware of the whole body?
Resting on the ground.
Bringing a very simple.
Steady awareness.
And just the experience of being in the body,
Resting.
Things begin to feel too heavy or sleepy,
Lengthening the spine,
Deepening the in-breath,
Just bringing a little energy in.
We can invite an attitude of warmth.
Quality of friendliness into the moment.
This is a very natural quality,
Like spending time with a friend.
Relaxing in the beautiful place and nature.
Opening a letter from a friend.
There's a certain quality of ease.
And connection in the heart,
Just getting to be alive and spend time right here.
So in whatever way feels natural or authentic to you.
Inviting this sense of friendliness or connection in the heart.
The body is always breathing.
Already happening.
If you're not already aware of the breath.
Can just notice this friendly heart.
Heart notice that the breath is happening.
Without needing to control it or make it any special way.
It might be shallow or deep.
Slow or fast.
Whether it's clear or vague.
Matters less than just recognizing.
Body's breathing,
And this is how it appears.
Notice the difference between and in breath.
And an out breath.
If there's any pause or lingering at the top of the in-breath.
Bottom of an out breath.
It's changing.
Life's moving.
Can we stay poised,
Aware,
Present?
Receiving each moment of life as it comes.
Adding thoughts.
Modes or impulses.
Just come and go in the background.
Just different.
Visitor is unfamiliar.
Some curious or strange.
No need to give them any attention right now.
Instead of letting the heart,
The mind.
Gather,
Settle,
And rest.
Feeling a change.
Letting it nourish the body.
And if there's any part of the heart or the mind that feels like it's struggling,
Judging.
Heals.
Fragmented.
You can just notice that experience.
Experience of being split.
One part,
Judge another,
Be in tension with it.
And how would it be to.
.
.
Lower the center of gravity down into the body to feel the Earth.
A lot,
Whatever noise may be occurring.
Be up at the surface.
And to just keep returning very patiently.
Very gently and kindly.
This basic process of the body breathing.
Letting everything else just kind of float on top of that.
In the last minute or so of our practice together.
Widening even further.
Becoming aware of the space around you.
Inviting some appreciation.
For your willingness to practice.
The effort to show up and be here again and again.
Perhaps even for this body doing its best.
To support our life.
And one breath at a time.
And then in your own time,
Bringing the meditation to a close.
And be deepening your breathing.
Inviting some movement.
And then gently letting your eyes open.
