There is light and there is darkness.
There are men and women.
Food,
Restaurants,
Illnesses.
Work,
Traffic.
And the days just as we have always known them to be.
The world just as we imagine it to be.
And you are overcome with sorrow.
Suddenly you remember all that you have lost.
The lovers you never had.
Your loved ones that are no longer with us.
You think about all the people that you have hurt.
You are overcome with sorrow.
Then you lose your sense of smell.
Without your sense of smell life goes on.
Food becomes more seasoned,
Saltier,
Sweeter,
Sorer and you get used to it.
The greatest loss is the loss of your memories which are no longer unleashed.
Within your brain your sense of smell and your memories are connected.
Maybe the scent of cinnamon reminds you of your grandmother's apron.
The scent of rassenlicut hay could bring about the scent of cows from your childhood.
The scent of gas oil could remain you of your first fairy tale.
Without your sense of smell an entire sea of past images disappear.
And fear appears.
It's purely a fear of survival.
And then hunger.
A hunger difficult to satisfy.
This is how you lose your sense of taste.
Your sense of smell and sense of taste are related.
They are the two chemical senses that we have.
And people continue doing the same as before as best as they can.
After some weeks the sense of taste becomes a distant memory.
And other sensations take their place.
At restaurants everything is based on the earth of simply offering someone dinner.
Allowing yourself to be served.
Listening how the wine is poured.
And how it clings against the glasses.
But rage also shows up.
Hatred takes over the wall.
Anger and fury spread.
And then the loss of the other sense.
Of hearing.
And two movements emerge.
People running through the street grabbing what they can.
People who don't believe in anything.
Only in the end of the world.
And then there is the other movement.
The farmers that go out to milk their cows.
And the soldiers who show up to serve.
Those that believe that life will continue in some manner.
Or they simply don't know what else to do.
We imagine the ice age as something that occurred slowly.
Glaciers that grew little by little.
Temperatures gradually lowering.
But it wasn't like that.
A short time ago intact mammoths were discovered.
With their stomach full of undigested grass.
The cold coughed them by surprise.
Like being hit unexpectedly with a stick.
And this is how the world is overcome with darkness.
Darkness is covering the world.
But first are the moments of light.
A tingling shared by the temporal lobe in the brain.
A deep appreciation for what it means to be alive.
And more than anything the shared need to reach others.
To offer affection.
Comprehension.
Acceptance.
Forgiveness.
And love.
And more love.
Now it is dark.
But you feel the other person's breath that hugs you.
And you know everything that you need to know.
You can kiss.
And feel the tears on your cheek.
And if anyone still remains to see you.
You surely appear to be just normal lovers caressing each other's faces.
Your bodies super close together.
Your eyes closed.
Unaware of the world around you.
Because this is how life goes on.
In this way.
In this way.
