Hello and welcome to this meditation.
A real short sharp introduction to meditation.
There is a lot of talk about what meditation is,
About what it can do for you and about how it can improve your life.
Sometimes I think we get too far away from the feeling.
In any practice,
Any skill or any life-transforming habit,
It all boils down to your direct experience.
What you feel,
What you think and what you see in your life.
So let's give this one a go together and then you can see what you feel.
So first off you kind of want to be in a calm place,
Hopefully in your surroundings but if not that's okay too.
Get comfy.
So where you are,
Shift your weight a little,
Plant your feet firmly on the floor or if you're laying down that's okay too and close your eyes.
Now first off become aware of how your thoughts react to when you close your eyes.
You might recognize something you might think oh I'm really tired or oh I've got loads to do I can't be doing this right now.
The skill here is to move away from judging how we think.
It's kind of like a do-nothing campaign and it's a great tip.
So you're kind of in your mind and that voice inside your head.
You're taking the megaphone out of his hand and letting him sit for a while.
Letting the voice in you just take a rest and just observe what's going on.
So as you've closed your eyes now and your body's comfy,
How are you thinking and how are you feeling?
Has it been a stressful day?
Has it been a good day?
Do you feel uncomfortable in your body at all?
Do you feel slightly agitated by your voice or my voice?
There's no judgment on any of these things that are true for you.
My invitation here is that you just experience what is true for you.
And for me meditation helps in being able to do that because it helps us quiet our mind so that we can actually see what is true for us and reclaim our feelings and that sense of calm and happiness which exists under all worry.
So having taken note of how you feel we're now going to do a short breathing exercise.
And much like we viewed our thoughts and feelings we're gonna view how we breathe.
So at the moment bring your attention and your awareness to your breath.
How are you breathing right now?
Is it short and shallow?
Or is it more relaxed?
Again try not to judge because when we bring our attention to our breath and just trust that it will sort itself out it often does.
So just bring your attention to your breath and breathe in and breathe out.
Breathe in and breathe out.
Breathing in and breathing out.
Noticing your body become more calm,
Your thoughts soften.
And a sort of warm tingly buzz in your body as you bring all parts of your awareness back online.
Now just after that minutes worth of focused breathing I'd like you return to the question of how do you feel right now?
Do you feel different?
Answer that question for you.
This is meditation.
Noticing and becoming aware of how we feel inside.
It is unfair to expect of yourself to run around doing all the things that you do in your day-to-day without giving and gifting yourself the time to ask yourself how you actually feel.
When you unite the will of wanting to do something,
The love of gratitude being grateful for this world and the honest truth with yourself about how you feel,
There is literally no stopping you.
Battles,
Arguments,
Conflicts become lessons,
Teachers and guides as we're able to empower ourselves to know what we want and get out of our own way so that we can get it.
I hope the short introduction has helped you understand what meditation is all about and what it can do for you and more than anything I hope that you can feel a little better.
Thanks very much and I'll see you again soon.
Bye.
