This is a meditation for showing loving kindness to yourself. Self-compassion involves treating yourself with the same care and kindness you would with a loved one. Unlike self-criticism which asks if you are good enough, self-compassion asks what is good for you. How are you treating yourself? Today I challenge you to cherish yourself, show kindness to yourself or perhaps even love yourself.

Begin in a comfortable position whether that be seated or lying down.

Start by closing your eyes and taking a couple of deep breaths.

Inhaling in and exhaling out.

If thoughts start to arise,

Notice them,

Feel the emotions that come by and then release them and let them float by.

Remain in the present moment.

Deep breath in and exhale out.

Only when we love ourselves can we give love to others.

Self-compassion involves treating yourself with the same care,

Kindness and understanding you would with a loved one.

Are you treating yourself this way?

It's hard to be happy when someone is always mean to you the whole time.

Take a moment to pause and reflect.

Unlike self-criticism which asks if you are good enough,

Self-compassion asks what is good for you.

You yourself as much as anybody in the entire universe deserves your love and affection.

Life is incredibly hard and confusing at times.

You are not alone in feeling this.

Now picture a leaf flowing down a river.

The current will sweep it along,

Pushing it under rocks but somehow each time the leaf will dislodge,

Broken and bruised but still moving.

And so do we.

No matter how much life twists us,

No matter how many emotions hit us like waves,

We are meant to flow with it,

Not run from it,

Not avoid it.

So flow with life even when it hurts.

Like the leaf,

Life will push and pull and test you but you are meant to navigate it and not resist it.

Now repeat after me,

Either out loud or silently in your mind.

I love,

I forgive and I appreciate myself.

I am enough and I believe in my abilities.

I treat myself with kindness and understanding.

I am worthy of all the good things life has to offer.

Self-compassion is nurturing yourself with all the kindness and love you would shower on someone you cherish.

So today cherish yourself,

Show kindness to yourself,

Even try love yourself.

You are doing the best you possibly can and that is enough.

And if you fail today,

Just try again tomorrow,

One step at a time.

You are seen,

You are appreciated and you are loved more than you can even imagine.

And you are not alone.
