Hello there,
This is Mark Gludman,
Also known as Brother Frederick James,
Welcoming you to this Lectio Divina contemplation audio on Psalm 62.
The modern world moves at a really fast pace.
Everywhere you go and everyone you talk to is busy and rushed and life's moving pretty fast.
And the words of Psalm 62,
Which we're told are a psalm of David,
Invite us to contemplate the idea that it's only when we bring ourselves away from the rush of the world and into the presence of the divine,
Only there will we find true rest.
And when you think about this,
It's very true.
There are so many different ways that we as humans try to find rest,
To try and find restoration,
To try and seek some solace for our inner world.
And yet it's only when we stop and allow ourselves to lay gently in the arms of God that I believe we find true rest.
So I invite you to join me for this time of contemplation as we reflect on the words that David wrote in Psalm 62.
As always,
We'll read through some verses of the passage three times with some space between for you to simply rest and contemplate the words or the ideas or the phrases that the Spirit draws you to in each of those readings.
And so as we close our eyes and as we breathe deeply,
We simply pray,
Spirit of God,
We seek rest.
Show us how we can find that rest in your presence.
We invite you to come and join us in this time that we will be awakened to where you are and how we can join our hearts and spirits with yours and find that deep,
True rest we long for and desire.
Amen.
Let us begin.
Psalm 62.
My soul finds rest in God alone.
My salvation comes from God.
God alone is my rock.
My salvation comes from God.
God alone is my rock and my salvation.
God is my fortress.
I will never be shaken.
Find rest,
O my soul,
In God alone.
My hope comes from God.
God alone is my rock and my salvation.
God is my fortress.
I will not be shaken.
My salvation and my honor comes from God.
God is my mighty rock,
My refuge.
Trust in God at all times,
O people.
Pour out your hearts to God,
For God is our refuge.
One thing God has spoken,
Two things I have heard,
Strong and that you,
O Lord,
Are loving.
My soul finds rest in God alone.
My salvation comes from God.
God alone is my rock and my salvation.
God is my fortress.
I will never be shaken.
Find rest,
O my soul,
In God alone.
My hope comes from God.
God alone is my rock and my salvation.
God is my fortress.
I will not be shaken.
My salvation and my honor depend on God.
God is my mighty rock,
My refuge.
Trust in God at all times,
O people.
Pour out your hearts to God,
For God is our refuge.
One thing God has spoken,
Two things I have heard,
That you,
O God,
Are strong and that you,
O Lord,
Are loving.
My soul finds rest in God alone.
My salvation comes from God.
God alone is my rock and my salvation.
God is my fortress.
I will never be shaken.
Find rest,
O my soul,
In God alone.
My hope comes from God.
God alone is my rock and my salvation.
God is my fortress.
I will not be shaken.
My salvation and my honor depend on God.
God is my mighty rock,
My refuge.
Trust in God at all times,
O people.
Pour out your hearts to God,
For God is our refuge.
One thing God has spoken,
Two things I have heard,
That you,
O God,
Are strong and that you,
O Lord,
Are loving.
As we rise from this time of reflection and contemplation,
We give thanks for even this short period of rest that our hearts have found.
But as we go,
We pray for help,
That we wouldn't just throw ourselves back into the busyness and the rush of life,
But we pray for the rest of our lives to be a reminder to regularly take moments to stop,
To breathe,
And to be.
May our souls always find rest in God alone.
Amen.
Peace be with you.
