Rosary: The Sorrowful Mysteries

Each mystery includes a short Bible reading with a minute of silence after reflection, before moving on to the next decade. I am grateful to Refuge Rosaries for the Rosary for this audio. The Sorrowful Mysteries are The Agony in the Garden; The Scourging at the Pillar; The Crowning with Thorns; The Carrying of the Cross; and The Crucifixion.

It's an honor to be praying the Rosary with you today as we reflect on the sorrowful mysteries.
In the name of the Father,
And of the Son,
And of the Holy Spirit,
Amen.
I believe in God,
The Father Almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,
And in Jesus Christ,
His only Son,
Our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified,
Died,
And was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day He rose again,
He ascended into heaven,
And is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
From there He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
The Holy Catholic Church,
The communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins,
The resurrection of the body,
And the life everlasting.
Amen.

The first sorrowful mystery,
The agony in the garden.
Jesus sweats water and blood while praying the night before his passion.
The fruit of this mystery is the sorrow for his sin.
He was in such agony and he prayed so fervently that his sweat became like drops of blood falling on the ground.
When he rose from prayer and returned to his disciples,
He found them sleeping from grief.
He said to them,
Why are you sleeping?
Get up and pray that you may not undergo the test.

The second sorrowful mystery,
The scourging at the pillar.
Pilot has Jesus whipped.
The fruit of this mystery,
Purity.
Pilot said to them,
You brought this man to me and accused him of inciting the people to revolt.
I have conducted my investigation in your presence at a place where I have been sent to heaven.
I have conducted my investigation in your presence,
And have not found this man guilty of the charges you have brought against him.
Therefore,
I shall have him flogged,
And then release him.
With loud shouts,
However,
The crowd persisted in calling for his crucifixion,
And their voices prevailed.
And he handed Jesus over to them,
To deal with as they wished.

The third sorrowful mystery,
The crowning with thorns.
Roman soldiers crown Jesus' head with thorns.
The fruit of this mystery is courage.
They clothed him in purple,
And weaving a crown of thorns,
Placed it on him.
They began to salute him with,
Hail,
King of the Jews,
And kept striking his head with a reed,
And spitting upon him.
They knelt before him in homage,
And when they had mocked him,
They stripped him of the purple cloak,
Dressed him in his own clothes,
And let him out to crucify him.
Our Father,

Oh my Jesus,

The fourth sorrowful mystery,
The carrying of the cross.
Jesus meets his mother,
And falls three times on the way up Calvary.
The fruit of this mystery is patience.
As they led him away,
They laid the cross on Simon of Cyrene to carry after Jesus.
Women bewailed and lamented him,
Weep not over me,
But weep for yourselves and for your children.
For the Lord is with you,
And with your children.
For behold the days shall come when they will say,
Blessed are the barren.
Then shall they begin to say to the mountains,
Fall upon us,
Cover us.
For if in the green wood they do these things,
In the dry.

The crucifixion.
Jesus is nailed to the cross and dies before his mother and his apostle John.
The fruit of this mystery is perseverance.
Jesus uttered a loud cry and said,
Father,
Into your hands I commend my spirit.
After he said this,
He expired.
