Fall asleep in this sacred journey that will lead you to a night of healing,

Soothing dreams.

So often we spend too much time in our minds and use our creative powers for worry.

But tonight,

You may use your imagination for respite.

As you relax with this calm sleep story,

You are listening to Rainy Dreams in the Amazon.

In this bedtime story for grownups,

You cruise down the Amazon River with a guide.

You encounter pink dolphins,

Mystical creatures that have inspired Amazonians for centuries.

The boat docks and you hike through the rainforest to your lodge as you connect with one of the most biodiverse regions in the world.

The lush tropical flora is a source of medicinal and soulful healing.

You enjoy a traditional meal in a treehouse as a rainstorm moves in.

Your guide takes you to a cozy tin-roofed hut overlooking the river.

The sounds of rain lull you into a deep,

Healing sleep.

It's time to dream away.

I would like to welcome you to Michelle's Sanctuary.

I am Michelle and as you tune in,

Think of my voice as that of a nurturing guide and friend.

My intention is to remind you of all that you deserve as you unwind at the end of the day.

I wish for you to unlock the soothing powers of your mind as you remember that you are a creative dreamer and visionary.

Customize this experience however it works best for you.

Let your mind wander towards feelings of bliss and a yearning for slumber.

You may let go of my voice and return to the story again if sleep calls to you before its end,

In the sanctuary of your room and body.

Bedtime is the perfect time to indulge your imagination and conjure beautiful landscapes before drifting to your dreamscape.

For thousands of years,

Humankind has revered the sacred time for rest and it is something we must remember,

Even in the busyness of the modern world.

You deserve rest.

You deserve peace.

Your needs matter and you know these needs better than anyone else.

So let's honor them now.

Guide your attention to your breathing.

Notice how your lungs feel.

Become aware of any tension or holding in your body.

Wiggle and settle and get as comfortable as you can.

Take in a quick inhalation and let out a long audible sigh.

This exhale comes as an announcement to every cell in your body that you are ready to unwind and surrender.

You are ready to release the day and any thoughts about the past and concerns about the future.

Wrap yourself in the kind,

Nurturing energy of the present moment.

Inhale through your nose when you are ready.

And as the air is warmed and prepared by your nostrils for your throat and lungs,

Imagine its smells of tropical flowers covered in rain droplets.

The aroma is sweet,

Exotic,

Spicy,

Floral and clean.

Open your mouth in a yawn and exhale through pursed lips as if blowing out candles and making a wish.

Your breath is strong.

It is your vehicle to other worlds.

Visualize your exhalation creating a soft wind that billows the ferns and leaves of a rainforest.

Feel your inner power.

Enjoy another round of conscious breathing.

Inhaling through your nose,

Yawning and sighing.

In preparation for the sleep story,

Invite in all the wondrous imagery and sensations that you associate with tropical rainforests.

Your room is more than a room.

It is a special place where you are safe enough to let down your guard.

It is the beguiling haven where you dream and imagine things that go beyond the limitations of your perceived reality.

With the curiosity of a child,

Enjoy one more round of inhaling,

Yawning and sighing.

Investigate the feelings of peace that wash over you.

By giving them attention,

You consciously ask for more of them.

Visualize being surrounded by a blanket of sparkling emerald light.

The color of life,

The color of rainforests,

The color of new beginnings,

The color of prosperity.

Return your breath to normal.

Luxuriate in the refuge you have created for yourself as the story begins.

The Amazon rainforest is a treasure chest of medicinal wonders.

For millions of years,

The tropical forest has thrived in the Amazon River Basin in South America.

The Amazon River flows as far as the distance between New York and Rome.

And nearly one fifth of all water on the earth's surface is carried by the river.

It is a mighty waterway that awakens the mightiness in those who visit.

For some time you have sought a new adventure,

Far from the normal routine of life.

You realized how important it was to feel awestruck again.

With the wonder that children feel every day they encounter something as simple as a caterpillar balancing on a thick blade of grass.

Far from home,

You experience a new version of yourself.

You are present in your new surroundings and your perception is sharp and clear.

Being this aware makes you realize how much you may have been sleeping through the details of your life,

Stuck on autopilot.

Sleeping in Amazonia is a recalibration and you burst with a sense of aliveness and vivacity mirrored by the rainbow of orchids that pepper the tropical forest.

The air is thick and humid against your skin.

As you cruise on the majestic river,

Accompanied by a guide named Carmen.

She has the maternal instincts of a jaguar.

And under her guidance,

You feel safe and nurtured on your journey.

You sit on an olive green wooden bench in the center of a modest vessel that floats on the river.

The late afternoon sun filters through a gauzy,

Silvery white layer of clouds.

The clouds offer reprieve from the sun,

As does a soft breeze across the silky water.

The Amazon weaves through the dense forests like a luminous ribbon that becomes a metallic blue as the clouds clear and reveal a crystal blue sky.

The trees along the riverbank reflect on the water like an oil painting.

The river offers a faint aroma of fish and minerals that becomes overpowered by the perfumes of the rainforest in places where the river narrows and you travel beneath the canopy of palm trees.

You close your eyes and slowly inhale the humid air,

Which reminds you of a well-kept greenhouse.

The sweet floral smells,

The rich earth,

Tropical vegetation,

And wet dirt linger in the air.

The humidity is so high that you can taste the rainforest when you inhale.

Dressed in soft khaki pants and a long-sleeved cotton shirt,

Your face is shielded by the wide brim of your hat.

Carmen looks back at you,

And the lines around her eyes crinkle when she smiles and asks ¿Cómo está?

You smile and tell her Bien.

She is a treasure chest of knowledge.

But on this journey,

You are more content to experience the sensations of the Amazon than you are to fill your brain with facts and words to impress.

Simply being here is enough.

You feel the forest breathe along with you.

Long ago Franklin D.

Roosevelt said,

Forests are the lungs of our land,

Purifying the air and giving fresh strength to our people.

You feel the truth of this with every inhalation and exhalation.

The symbiotic exchange prevents you from feeling like an outsider.

You feel a sense of belonging you have not felt in some time.

The boat softly bobs back and forth,

Massaging your body as it surrenders to the journey and heat.

Your body is loose and relaxed.

Your mind is free to daydream and wander.

You feel quite thirsty and sip a cool drink from your canteen.

It quenches you in a way that has never felt so delicious and appreciated.

You think of how often in a normal day,

You carelessly hydrate yourself without even noticing.

But right now you notice and you recognize how important the simple act is in keeping you alive and in pleasing you.

At the same time,

You and Carmen notice a pink river dolphin breaching the tranquil river.

The carnation pink skin glistens in the sunlight.

The creature is so unusual that it is hard to believe it is real.

Carmen explains,

Es un boto.

And soon this boto is joined by its mate.

They are curious and swim closer to the boat.

Their snouts are longer and more slender than bottlenose dolphins.

Many natives told stories over centuries about these colorful,

Intelligent creatures and how they could whisk you away at night to enjoy a magical underwater city.

One of the botos calls out to you in what feels like a goodbye before their pink bodies disappear beneath the water and they swim away.

Carmen guides the vessel to the riverbank.

There is a modest lodge encampment that will require a hike through the forest.

She docks the boat before helping you out onto the damp earth.

You find your balance and readjust to being on land.

For a few steps you still feel as though you are floating with the river.

But as you enter a path through the forest,

You feel steadier and grounded in the strength of your legs.

With a backpack on your shoulders,

You adjust your posture and feel the strength in your spine as well.

You follow Carmen over tawny tree vines and roots that cover the forest floor in earth-tone braids and swirls.

They evoke a sense of endurance,

Strength,

And being firmly grounded.

The sun filters through the whispering leaves and the path becomes darker and cooler the deeper into the forest that you go.

You never realized how many shades of green there are until you found yourself deep in the rainforest.

The greens are a blank canvas for the pops of color you discover in the stripes of a perched toucan,

In the vibrant electric blues and fiery oranges of tree frogs,

And in the purple and pink orchids that line the rugged path.

Birds and frogs sing out their deli praises while monkeys chatter and insects add a rhythm section.

When you listen closely,

You perceive the Amazon River lapping against the riverbank.

With awakened perception,

You sense you can understand what every creature is trying to communicate.

The monkeys long to play.

The birds wish to be heard and noticed.

Unlike the birds,

The glass-winged butterflies long to blend into their environment.

Carmen gestures to one and you admire its translucent and iridescent wings with a perimeter of rusty brown markings.

A sloth hugs a tree and curiously watches you step carefully over the gnarled roots that pop out of the earth like thick veins.

A red howler monkey feeds her young,

Nestled on a wide branch overhead.

The howler monkeys are the loudest of all creatures in the forest and occasionally you hear their echoes through the thick air.

Amazonia reminds you of your smallness and this reminder serves as a gateway to the awe and sense of wonder you sought.

It takes away responsibility and the worrisome things you once thought were significant fade away.

You find pleasure in the uncertainty of each new turn and wind through the jungle.

You truly do not know what will come next.

And while often in life you are just as uncertain,

The forest doesn't give you the same freedom to pretend that all will unfold as usual because nothing is usual to you here.

So your natural response is to be attentive and present.

Karma informs you of the medicinal plants that surround you.

An herb for every element grows on the mystical forest floor.

The cow trees and coffee plants grow in the Amazon as well.

It's a marvelous landscape of biodiversity and as you come to a clearing,

You turn back towards the forest and whisper thank you.

Just by traveling around the world to be here,

The influences of the Amazon were part of your daily life in ways you had not considered before and you appreciate all the things in life that originated in the sacred place.

You follow Karma to the clearing to discover the tropical lodge where you will spend the night.

The river lines the property of tree houses and tin roofed huts.

Karma brings you to a tree house in the center and you ascend the well-worn wooden stairs that spiral around the gray-brown trunk.

Something about this tree is different.

You can feel its healing powers and the layers of history that it retains in its bark.

You intuitively glean that this tree has been a place for communion and healing.

The tree house serves as a spot to gather for meals and meditation.

The open air dwelling has a thatched roof and you follow Karma to a table that overlooks the river.

The aerial view gives you a better vantage point to take in the snake-like weaves of the reflective waterway.

Storm clouds begin to roll in overhead.

Their smoky purple underbellies reflect on the river and cast the forest in dark shadows.

A host brings you a meal that is rich in flavor with sweet and savory tasting notes that represent the best of Amazonian delicacies.

The food is simple in presentation and enlivens all the taste buds on your tongue.

After the meal,

You are given a wooden cup of passionflower tea that is meant to soothe and inspire sleep.

Passionflowers are some of the most revered flowers in the forest,

With pointed purple or scarlet petals shaped like a starfish,

And corona filaments that resemble the spines of a sea urchin.

Yellow and white stamens sometimes cross to resemble the inside of a peace sign.

You already feel quite tired from the hike and tropical heat,

And the satiated feeling of a full stomach increases your sleepiness as well.

You sip the lukewarm tea slowly and savor the experience of being atop the trees.

A wind picks up,

Offering reprieve as it rustles the waxy green leaves and the edge of the thatched roof.

The wind looks at you with her warm hazel eyes in a motherly way,

And asks if you are ready to retire for the night.

You are,

But wish to savor the beauty of the jungle for another moment.

In the distance,

Rain showers create a lavender-gray sheet that lands on the treetops.

You see it moving in closer.

There is time before the storm arrives,

And you enjoy watching it move slowly towards the lodge.

You finish the last drops of tea and leave with your guide,

Descending the stairs one sleepy step at a time.

You return to the damp forest floor and follow Carmen through the rows of rustic dwellings that host people who travel from all over the world to visit the sacred forest.

She leads you to your modest shanty.

Made of wood and with a metal roof,

It overlooks the river.

She gestures to a neighboring dwelling and says to call her if you need anything.

You thank her and feel so tired and certain there is little you need beyond a quick shower and night of sleep.

You enter the hut to discover beautiful hardwood floors and a hand-carved four-poster bed with a plush mattress surrounded by a white mosquito net.

You place your bag on a chair near an open window that looks out onto the majestic river.

There is a deck with an outdoor shower surrounded by a tall fence made of bamboo reeds.

There is a towel and lightweight robe in a small closet before the deck.

You turn on the outdoor shower,

Which is fed from collected rainwater that travels through a bamboo pipe.

You undress and step beneath the shower head,

Which mimics the rain showers of the tropical forest.

The water is lukewarm and refreshes you.

You wash away the day of travel with a bar of medicinal soap.

It smells unlike any soap you have ever used before.

The moment it graces your skin,

The suns create a deeply soothing sensation that is almost methylated.

Your muscles are penetrated by the salt and release tension.

Your breathing slows and you wash your face.

Everything about this experience is cleansing and soothing.

Each time that you consider you are the most content and relaxed that you have ever been.

Another wave of peace washes over you and your relaxation deepens.

The medicinal and healing energy of the forest is better received the more tired you become.

In a soporific moment,

You let down your guard and are open to the peace that is found in the heart of Amazonia.

You turn off the shower and as you do,

The first fat droplets of rain begin to fall on the palm trees overhead.

How serendipitous it is that the water you used is now being refilled by the rainstorm.

There is a deep connection to the circle of life and the cycles and patterns that exist in nature,

Especially noticed when you are in tune with your environment.

You dry off and wrap yourself in the linen bathrobe.

Sky becomes dark and so does the interior of the hut.

So dark it could be late in the night.

You look out the wide window onto the river that has become a liquid gradient of purples and smoky grays.

Silver raindrops create ripples in the water and a rhythmic patter on the tin roof of your dwelling.

Thunder rumbles in the distance and you feel so very tired.

You walk across the cool,

Shiny wooden floor to the bed and peel back the mosquito net and then the ivory blanket and crisp white sheets.

The clean smell of rain permeates the air and marries the alluring perfume of tropical flowers.

You climb into the cool sheets and cover yourself as your spine aligns on the semi-firm mattress.

You wrap the mosquito net around you.

It feels safe as if protected in a cocoon.

The net provides a mystical sense of safety that a child's imagination could conjure.

It makes you feel invisible in a haven for sleep.

All animals of the forest are tucked away in their nooks and hollows or have gone underground or to the bottoms of the rivers and lakes as a storm intensifies.

You feel the synergy you all share in an innate desire to hunker down.

The rain taps on the roof and lulls you into a trance.

You look through the gauzy fabric that surrounds you to the river outside the window.

For a moment you dreamily imagine your four-poster bed gliding through the window of the hut and sailing down the river to a basin of sweet dreams.

You inhale and sigh and your head sinks deeper into the pillows.

The room becomes even darker still as the storm intensifies.

The tin roof forms a slope over the windows and walls of the hut and the rain cascades over the aluminum edge like a waterfall.

Inside you remain safe and dry,

Comforted by the continuous music of falling rain.

You begin to drift towards sleep.

Beyond all the medicinal wonders one may forage for in the Amazon,

Simply being in the sacred place is medicinal.

It is a tonic for all anxiety and stress in the modern world.

Solid reminder that this beauty exists even when you are elsewhere and by the powers of your mind you can bring yourself back to this oasis whenever you desire.

The smell of a tropical flower or the sound of rain falling is enough to take you back to the luscious rainforest.

You go deeper and deeper down,

Welcoming healing in places you did not know needed it.

The layers of healing open you to your creative spirit as you drift and float towards sleep,

Towards magical dreams of pink dolphins and secret cities at the bottom of the river,

To cozy tree houses and protected canopies,

To natural settings that surpass the greatest of storybook illustrations.

Your face is soft and all muscles are relaxed.

Your jaw becomes looser.

Your tired body becomes slack.

A tropical breeze wafts over you and meets your face like a loving whisper.

You belong here.

You are worthy of this healing precious moment and all the moments that it will inspire.

Letting go and surrendering,

Drifting,

You listen to the drops of rain as they fall and then focus on the soft quiet pauses between drops.

You are soothed by the rain,

By the smells,

By the safety of your dwelling,

By the feelings of awe and wonder that you may tap into at any age,

The wondrous world is always here.

Waiting for you to explore its majesty and connect on a deeper level with the diverse life that shares this planet with you.

You enter realms of tranquility and bliss that go deeper than you have experienced before.

Your breath flows in and out.

Your source of power like a magical wind that could move the currents of the Amazon River and the palms of the rainforest.

Breathing in and out and in and out.

In a flow of unconditional love and appreciation,

The thunder rumbles in the distance and you inhale again,

Feeling gratitude for shelter and safety and for the night of sleep to come.

In the sleepy forest,

You fall asleep,

Letting go,

Floating on a river to sweet dreams,

Going deeper and deeper down towards stillness,

Towards oneness,

Towards the bridge that leads to your dreaming life.

You visualize a wooden bridge suspended above the Amazon River.

You float ethereally across the smooth planks that rock you to and fro,

Like in a cradle rocking you towards sleep.

Your hands slip across the braided rope that leads you to slumber.

One step at a time,

You get closer and closer to sleep,

To respite,

To rest,

To the restoration and healing that awaits you,

Letting go of my voice and welcoming the dreams on the other side of the bridge.

It's time to dream away.

Good night.

Absolutely wonderful, thank you Michelle🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻The rain sounds at the end are maybe too long. I noticed in these couple of nights that I sometimes woke up in the middle of those sounds, and it started me thinking: what is that? And that would really wake me up. Sometimes, there would only be 6 min left, but just now, I woke up, a shorter cycle, and there were still 37 min of it. Anyway, the story itself is wonderful. Never heard of pink dolphins, yesterday night was the first time that I heard that part of the story. Will research that. 🙏🏻😴🙏🏻
