Naptime is a special time and this story may be used for an afternoon break or even before bed. Find yourself in a seaside town as a storm rolls in on a summer day. You retreat to a porch swing with your beloved pet and fall asleep to the sound of falling rain on the roof. It's time to dream away.
Transcript
Enjoy a perfect nap in this guided sleep meditation and story.
The story is written for nap time and there will not be a sounding bell at the end.
So if you'd like to time your nap you may wish to set an alarm.
That said you may also listen to this story before going to bed at night because you are free to do so without interruption.
The beauty of this story is you get to decide what works best for you.
You are listening to the rainy afternoon and in this sleep story you will enjoy being in a garden in summer when a storm arrives.
With your pup in tow you seek refuge from the storm in an enclosed porch and take a nap on a cozy porch swing.
I would like to welcome you to Michelle's Sanctuary.
I am Michelle and as you listen you may think of me as a gentle guide and friend,
Here to usher you into a special respite.
You deserve all the rest your body informs you that it needs.
So relish this time for peace and stillness.
Spoil yourself with cozy vibes and thoughts and know you may customize this experience as you listen.
I am here to help awaken your imagination so you may self soothe and drift to sleep fast.
Find a safe place where you will not be interrupted and close your eyes.
It's time to wiggle out all parts of your day that your body is holding onto.
Let it all go so that when you awaken it will be like a new start.
Take in the biggest inhalation you've managed to take all day and open your mouth into a generous yawn.
You are free to yawn all you want and signal to your body it's time to stand down and get comfortable.
The yawn becomes a sigh like the breathing of a content baby drifting to sleep.
You may even make a sound as all the air leaves your body.
Take another breath and without judgment your inhale turns into a big yawn and you let that yawn become a sigh of relief.
It's time for a getaway.
You follow your breath as it becomes a gentle breeze rustling the emerald blades of grass in a manicured lawn.
You stand barefoot in the grass and it slightly tickles your toes as you sink into the silky,
Velvety earth's floor.
You are in the yard of your historic Victorian home.
This home has been painted in your favorite color scheme and you take a second to admire it.
You walk towards an elephant gray picket fence that encloses your garden.
The air is warm and humid in the dog days of summer,
Fragranced with a hint of salt water from the nearby coastline.
The aroma of the sea marries the sweet,
Mouth-watering smells of summer fruits in your garden.
Peach trees grow along outside the fence and overflow with fuzzy,
Ripe peaches.
Your fingers lift the cool metal clasp of the garden door and the door softly squeaks as you open it and step along the raised beds of lettuce and zucchini,
Tomato plants and berry bushes,
And a box of basil,
Mint and rosemary.
Trees of sunlight pierce through rolling,
Amethyst-gray storm clouds that move in on a cool breeze.
You have spent the day outdoors in the heat,
Tending to your garden and enjoying the sunlight before the impending storm.
You grab a pair of scissors that hang on a hook on the fence.
You trim some mint and take a moment to inhale the mentholated herb.
And as you do,
You notice the air has changed and smells of rain.
In the distance,
Lightning flashes and the first fat drops of cold rain begin to fall.
They splat and drip down the lush green leaves of the strawberry plant.
You remove a ripe strawberry and bite into it.
The sweet and juicy berry at first tastes of clean rain.
You finish the strawberry and call for your pup,
Who is sleeping in the grass.
With mint in hand,
You guide your pup towards the stairs that lead to an enclosed porch.
This porch is a place for gatherings with friends on summer nights,
Where you often enjoy barbecues and watching the fireflies dance across the yard.
But recently,
The porch has become your favorite place to enjoy a nap.
The temperature drops quite suddenly and the rain begins to fall harder.
You open the screen door just in time and your pup races ahead of you and shakes off the drops of rain that have landed on their coat.
You bring the mint over to an antique crystal pitcher that contains fresh lemonade and sits on a dinette table.
You run your hand over the hand cut crystal design and condensation that has formed.
You do this simply because it feels good.
You drop the mint into the lemonade and stir it with the wooden spoon that sits inside.
You then pour the cool tart drink into a crystal glass and take a sip.
Your pup laps water from a silver bowl and their dog tags clink against the metal.
Your unapologetic laps of water always make you smile as you carefully sip your mint lemonade.
Your lips tingle from the mint and your throat is soothed by the cool cascading liquid.
Smoke gray storm clouds fill the late afternoon sky and the sky becomes as dark as if nightfall has set in.
The air is brisk and damp and raindrops fall on the roof of the porch in a fast staccato.
Your pup yawns and then you do as well,
Surrendering to the infectious feeling of sleepiness that sets in.
There is a porch swing that hangs from the rafters and is the size of a twin sized bed.
The mattress is plush and inviting.
You climb into the swing and pat the cushion in an invitation for your pup to join you.
Together you cuddle up beneath a patchwork quilt made of the fabrics of your beloved retired articles of clothing and blankets through the years.
It is as if you are snug beneath the best memories in the history of your life.
Rain cracks in the distance and briefly illuminates the sky with a white hot flash.
Thunder is like a soft purr in the distance.
Together you and your pet feel safe and content as the rain continues to fall all around the porch.
If you listen closely enough,
You can hear the soft patter of raindrops on the rose petals of the bushes that surround your Victorian home.
The cotton candy pastel hues of the roses are dreamlike and whimsical.
Much like the delicate details of your historic house,
Your eyes become so very heavy as you rock in the swing,
Swaying gently back and forth,
Feeling as if you are in the safety of a cradle.
Your pup sighs and then your sigh follows.
You are grateful to be snug,
Dry,
And so very content.
You surrender to the gentle tug of sleep as it urges you to let go and relax.
From head to toe your body sinks deeper into the plush cushion.
Ten by one each cell in your body signs off and surrenders to sleep.
And I am going to count you down and with each count you give yourself the permission to drift closer towards the dreams that await.
