We do not eat the fruit the same day we plant the seed.

That is one of my favorite sayings.

Today is about patience,

Our relationship with time,

Waiting,

Expecting,

And growth.

Now the thing about the seed analogy is that when you plant an apple seed,

Let's say,

You water it,

You give it sunlight,

You take care of the soil,

And you do all the things that it needs to grow.

You know that eventually it will sprout above ground and grow into an apple tree.

The seed holds the whole tree already in it.

Your thoughts are the seeds.

Each one holds the whole idea already inside of it.

But just like the apple seed,

It needs water,

Sunlight,

And nourishment,

Which in this metaphor,

The water and sunlight,

Are your thoughts,

Your habits,

Action,

Where you put your attention and energy,

Patience,

And then more thoughts,

Followed by more action and more patience and trust.

It takes time to fuel an idea into fruition.

That is why they say life is about the journey,

Not the destination,

Because enjoying the ride along the way is what life is about.

Mary Morrissey in the 11 Forgotten Laws talks about expectation as an active form of patience.

I love this idea of expecting it to grow when you know that you're taking care of it.

There is an opportunity to relax and feel less pressure to push and make things go faster when you understand and trust the process of growth.

Built into the growth process is patience.

It is an important step in creating anything.

We have lots of cliches in our culture to remind us of this.

All good things come to those who wait.

Rome wasn't built in a day.

Patience is a virtue.

We often want results now.

We live in an accelerated culture where our sense of time has been warped by technology.

It is a now,

Now,

Now culture,

And we are losing the art of patience.

Patience is an attitude you bring to waiting.

It is a quality and has an essence to it.

Patience is about trust.

It is how you move through difficulty.

Patience is a choice.

On the other side of patience is irritation,

Annoyance,

Anger,

And feeling bothered.

There are many things we cannot speed up,

So developing a relationship with patience as a part of your character will serve you in life.

So 30 days can feel short.

It can feel long depending on how you feel.

Some days require more patience than others.

But if you keep coming back to what seeds you are planting,

Where you are putting your attention,

And how you are nourishing these seeds,

You can find a way to relax in the patience and enjoy the journey.
