Good morning,
Opulent mindfulness.
Welcome.
Today's meditation is entitled,
A Mouth Full of Jujubes.
Some of you may remember this favorite movie candy typically,
A box full of super uber gooey,
Sticky,
Hard to chew jujube gummy candy.
The reason I'm calling today's meditation,
Mouth full of jujubes,
Is because I liken trying to brush your teeth after chewing a box full of jujubes to trying to meditate after first checking your phone in the morning,
Running through your social media feeds.
It is best to meditate on a clear,
Unadulterated,
Emotionally triggered mind.
Sometimes our alarms are set to the phone or devices and even my morning movement ritual playlist is set on my device so I have to turn it on and overcome temptation to check all the beeps and buzzes.
But if we really want to get down to scrubbing our teeth clean,
We can't first pack them full of sugary goo.
If we want to really scrub the mind,
We cannot first pack it full of sugary goo.
So today's meditation is trying to emphasize coming to your cushion or your floor or your bed or your chair with a clean slate.
There's already enough mental residue to scrub through.
We don't need to deliberately add to it.
And then we can really excavate and get to the good stuff,
Wisdom,
Pearls,
Joy,
Fear,
Uncertainty.
All of these things will reveal themselves and easily be lifted,
Freshly washed from your mind.
So you may be clear and steady,
Light and full of possibility.
So we begin.
Come to your comfortable seat.
Press down through your base,
Lift your heart high,
Take a big belly breath in and a long and ease full of breath out.
Maybe you're already chewing on something in your mind,
Whether it's an issue you're trying to untangle or a conversation or your checklist for the day.
Give yourself this permission to just rinse the brain and sit in the fresh state.
Imagine the tingly sensation after brushing fresh,
Sparkly,
Smooth,
Clean mouth.
The same goes for the mind,
Fresh,
Unagitated,
Sparkly,
Clean mind.
And just simply place yourself in this state and stay as long as you can until naturally the mind goes away and we usher it gently back to clean and centered.
Rest your eyes.
Let them fall heavily to their sides and your mind's eye is forward focused on a very distant,
Bright sliver of a white light on the horizon.
Press down through your base,
Lift your heart high,
Find ease in breathing in and equal ease in exhaling.
We're not dumping the breath out.
We're managing and smoothly in a silky fashion letting the breath go.
And sometimes we do eat a jujube before brushing our teeth.
Sometimes we do put some mental ooey gooey sugar in our brain before meditating.
This happens.
So we sit,
We rinse and we let the junk and the sticky dissolve away.
Dissolve away in its own time,
Rinsing and swishing and let it dissolve away until your beautiful mind with wisdom and happiness emerges.
Let your face rise to receive the glow of sunlight on your face.
Let the weight of worry melt off your shoulders so your heart may shine and pierce forward upward.
And as you sit and notice the fluctuations of the mind,
Noticing any tendencies to fidget,
Let it soak.
We forgive ourselves.
Recognizing this is our nature,
The mind will wander,
Be distracted and we return to our peaceful,
Joyful state.
This is the natural one.
Really bathe yourselves in this beautiful light,
Sparkling,
Clear and clean and cool,
Fresh mind.
It's not heated.
It's not soiled.
It is light and available to receive the experiences of the day.
And in the words of Gandhi,
I shall let no man walk through my mind with their dirty feet.
Namaste.
