An original poem by Heidi Fischer. This prose explores the concept of growth with Complex PTSD. Due to this trauma - the so called "typical milestones" may not be easily reached, or they may look different than the "norm", but we do grow in our own uniquely beautiful ways. Set to light music with birds chirping, it opens and closes with a bell. Background music by Lesfm

They say time heals all wounds.

That's nonsense.

I think instead,

As time marches on,

We change shape,

Like a tree slowly twisting to avoid an intrusion.

We cannot unravel ourselves once it's been done,

No more than the tree can.

Yet,

We continue to grow upwards or sideways if need be,

But we grow.

I am nearing the age of irrelevance.

Sometimes that scares me.

Time passed me by and the normal milestones go undone.

But maybe I've been wonderfully braiding myself,

Sidestepping divorce,

Mortgage payments,

And furniture maintenance.

I could be an ancient sequoia that illuminates the path.

A wise willow,

A patient pine,

A mindful maple,

A hilarious hazel,

A sassy spruce,

And I too touch the sky.
