Poem: The Carpet

An original poem by Heidi Fischer. This writing discusses sadness and laying around on the floor because of it. The focus is on the similar nature of an unappealing carpet and the lethargy within. The audio opens/closes with chimes and very light music plays in the background.

The carpet and I intertwined. One. I know these fibers. Stiff tufts. Two-ply yarn. The pile is unappealing. Damaged. Matted. I remain anyways. Basking in our static instability. Nothing is expected. And nothing is given. A symbiotic vacuum that leaves us both threadbare. Yet this devotion is unequivocal. Fading in sync. Disappearing on command. Wholly unruffled. Our chorus is detached.

I had totally ignored my dull, grey shag carpet in the upstairs room of my new apartment …….. upon moving in I immediately made the decision to put my precious, special, sky blue day bed into the living room/kitchen and merely ignore the fact that I even had an “upstairs “ ……..
