Do social situations or difficult conversations make you run for the hills? It's valid to feel this way -- we've all been there (at least, I have). But I don't want you to be stuck there. You deserve to feel calmer, more grounded in your body, and enjoy connecting with whoever you're talking to. So in today's guided meditation, I'm leading you through a little trick of mine -- focusing on attention on our hands and feet when things get a little stressful. ​It's a handy technique to keep in your back pocket for times when you need to get grounded fast. I hope you'll give it a try and let me know how it goes.

Hi there.

So you may be feeling a little or a lot of anxiety right now.

Maybe you have an event or a presentation coming up or a conversation that you need to have that's causing you to feel a little stressed out and that's okay.

It actually makes a lot of sense that you're feeling this way because communication in relationships,

Whether new or old,

Can be one of the most difficult things that we do.

So let me be the first to tell you that you're doing great.

You're in the right place.

So before we do anything else,

Let's just take a nice deep breath together.

Inhale long and slow through the nose.

Pause.

Briefly at the top and then exhale through the nose or the mouth.

Now let's find a comfortable seated position,

Finding some semblance of symmetry in the left and right sides of the body with the feet grounded on the floor.

Start to become aware of your physical body,

Overall.

Aware of how your body is situated in space,

Front to back,

Top to bottom,

And side to side.

Noticing the feeling of your feet grounded firmly on the floor.

Whether you are barefoot or wearing shoes,

Check in with how it feels to have the soles of your feet resting on the floor.

Noticing the weight of the feet,

Any feeling of pressure or temperature,

Any sensations in the heel,

The arch,

The middle of the foot,

The top of the foot,

The balls of the feet,

And the toes,

From the big foot to the pinky toes.
