Hello,
And welcome to Meditations with Mal.
I'm Mallory,
Or Mal,
And today we're going to be doing a meditation on when things don't go according to plan,
Which I'm sure many people have that experience.
And I'm going to be meeting right now where I was expecting to be recording this at a desk with my mic.
And instead,
We are on the street,
Walking in Dallas,
Because life happens.
So if you would like to,
You can get a little comfortable here.
We'll hear the sounds of the cars in the background.
They are loud as we are by a highway.
As you hear each car drive past,
Think of it as something that you are ready to let go of.
Something we can say goodbye to.
Something that we were not expecting,
That is just coming right past our lives.
The world is a very loud place,
And I think a lot of the times we work really hard to make it quiet.
Sometimes unrealistic and quiet.
So today,
We're going to be outside in the world for this meditation.
And I invite you to settle down into your seat wherever you are,
Whether that is in a chair or a desk,
On your bed,
Whatever that might look like.
Settle down.
Slowing our breath here,
Taking a big breath in,
Breathing in and breathing out.
Letting everything float by.
When we work so hard to plan everything in our days,
In our lives,
Sometimes we can get completely put off if something doesn't happen.
We can think of the perfect order,
The perfect amount of time.
But no matter how much planning goes into it,
We cannot control life,
No matter how much we want to.
We can control our reactions,
We can control the impact that we let something have on our life,
But we can't control every aspect of it.
So today,
I invite you to think of a situation that you thought you had planned out,
That,
Oh my,
Life had very different plans for you.
Now,
Think of what actually happened in the situation.
Not what you wanted to happen.
Think of what actually happened.
Settling down even more into this position,
Thinking,
What were you hoping you would get out of that situation?
What were you hoping would be the results?
Now,
Playback,
As we mentioned,
What actually happened?
Did everything come crumbling down?
Or was it actually okay?
Maybe even something completely unexpected happened,
And that was a little gift that we weren't expecting.
Maybe we were able to bump into someone we hadn't seen in a while,
Or take advantage of an hour or two that we had to ourselves.
Or me today,
Walk instead of drive.
Whatever it might be,
Try to find the thing that you're happy happened that wouldn't have if everything had perfectly gone according to plan.
Now that we remember this little added bonus we got for life just happening,
Can we realize that this can happen all the time?
Any plans that we don't expect?
Any life?
We can remember that there is probably a reason or something that we are going to get out of this.
Even if it's not what we expected when we woke up and opened our eyes.
Before you go about your day or maybe even the plan you had.
Is there something we can let go of?
Something we can say,
I'm okay if this doesn't happen.
Life will be okay.
Today I am fortunate for the wind blowing through the trees that I am walking under.
I would not have gotten to experience if my car had not had issues today.
I am thankful for the moment wandering up and down the aisles in a store,
Finding a new product that I didn't know existed.
And I am thankful for just one more moment that I have to myself.
Just as you should be thankful to these last couple minutes that you are spending on yourself.
Spending knowing that no matter what's happening in life,
It will work out.
As to not get you too far off of that plan you might have,
I will say thank you so much as always for joining me in today's meditation.
And I wish you a good rest of your day.
So much love from my heart to yours.
Thank you.
