Hello,
This is Mary.
You wake up in the morning,
In the same bed,
In the same room,
Surrounded by all the familiar things,
Yet you feel lost.
Your brain knows you're not lost,
But your heart doesn't know in which direction to go.
Your heart is beating in time with life,
Yet life itself looks confusing and surreal,
Almost like you're watching yourself in a movie and wondering which way the character will go next,
Sometimes talking to her and saying,
Why would you do that?
Because that's the wrong way.
But you don't feel like you know the right way either,
So you continue to watch and wonder and feel lost.
That's the place where you might find yourself today.
So find yourself today,
In a place of unknowing.
In the unknowable place that is human,
All too human.
You might go outside today and take a breath of fresh air,
And you look at the familiar sights around you,
And still you may say,
Where am I?
I recognize this place,
These trees,
This sky,
But where am I?
You may feel lost,
Truly lost,
Without purpose or direction.
It's scary sometimes,
I know.
You're wandering in an endless space,
One without walls,
Without railings to hold onto,
And the floor feels like it's moving beneath your feet because you can't find the next step.
But even when you can't see it,
The next step is already laid out for you,
It's there.
Your heart beats in time with life,
And knows where to go.
And even if you don't listen to your heart,
You will go the right way.
You always go the right way.
Sometimes the right way includes struggle.
Sometimes the right way does not include struggle.
Sometimes the right way feels like the wrong way,
But feelings don't tell you which way to go.
Life tells you which way to go,
And you go.
You simply go.
Even today,
When you feel lost,
Life knows the way,
And you are life and life and you are arm in arm,
Walking together all the time.
Even when your eyes feel closed when they're open,
And your ears are muffled and your legs are leaden.
Even when you don't get out of bed at all because you feel too confused to move,
You're still moving along with life,
In the flow,
On the right path.
Your path,
Yours alone.
So often we are told to trust,
But trust isn't necessary because you can never be lost in life because life is you and you are it.
Life always knows where you need to go so you can never be lost.
Life always shows you,
With a glance,
A glimmer,
A glint of sunlight,
Moonlight,
Or starlight.
You may move through this day and feel untethered,
But you're not.
The lifeline is always there to hold on to.
Even when your hands feel empty and cold,
They are not empty and cold.
They are always held by life itself,
Free to touch everything and nothing,
The unknown and the known,
As you navigate into new territory.
Peaceful sighs now,
Peaceful sighs.
Warm embraces now,
Warm embraces.
You cannot be lost.
You cannot lose anything.
You cannot lose everything because there is nothing to lose.
You always have everything.
You always are everything.
Take heart in these moments of confusion because they're normal and okay.
They don't mean anything.
They don't signify that you're lost as to which way to go.
They are momentary fragments of forgetting who you really are,
Forgetting your innate strength and focus and direction.
No direction is off limits to you.
Every direction takes you where you need to go.
Take a step alongside me today.
I'm holding your hand.
I'm walking under the trees with you.
I'm here for you.
Let's go into life together.
When you feel lost,
You are not lost.
When you're sure you're lost,
You are not lost.
When you don't know what to do,
You are not lost.
When you don't know the answer,
You are not lost.
When you cry because you don't know which way to go,
You are not lost.
You can never be lost.
You are in life and of life.
Life itself is lived through you and can never lose you.
