Candle Meditation

Be guided into a relaxed state of awareness. Tune into your breathe, as you relax and breathe. Please have a lit candle to focus your awareness upon. Part of this meditation will require you to have your eyes open, as you focus on the light. Contemplate the essence of light.

Transcript

Finding yourself in a comfortable position,

Feet flat on the floor,

Connected to the earth,

Spine is straight,

Imagine yourself like a tree,

Your spine is straight,

Your head is reaching up to the sky.

You may gently close your eyes and take several deep breaths into your body,

Breathing into your belly and allowing your breath to gently flow out.

On every out breath,

Feel your body begin to relax and let go.

Letting go into relaxation,

Contemplation,

Meditation,

Giving yourself permission right now to let go into relaxation,

Letting go of a need to be doing and allowing yourself this time to just be.

As you breathe,

Notice any areas of your body that feel tense and breathe into those parts and imagine that the in breath is loosening the tension and the out breath is carrying it out of you.

Letting go of stress and tension,

Breathing it out.

On every out breath,

Breathing it out,

Creating space to relax and receive the next inhale.

Relaxing more and more with every cycle of your breath.

If your mind begins to wander,

Gently bring it back to your breath or the sound of my voice guiding you.

Any attempt to meditate is successful as long as you bring your awareness back to a point of focus.

Your point of focus is your breath and my voice guiding you.

Being aware of your body and any sensations occurring.

Scanning your body from the tips of your toes to the top of your head.

Noticing your body,

Feeling in the sensation of your clothing against your skin,

The temperature of your body.

Bringing awareness to any tastes on your palate and the moisture within your mouth.

Just noticing and observing.

Being aware of your breath,

Noticing your breath entering into your body through your nostrils and your breath leaving your body through your nostrils.

Being aware of any fragrances and aromas that are around you.

Bring your awareness now to your mind,

Your thoughts and any images that might be occurring.

Simply observing and being aware,

Allowing your thoughts to flow and as they flow,

Letting go.

Your mind and your thoughts are tools that you use.

But you are more than just your thoughts and you are observing your thoughts as they come and go.

Without judgment or evaluation.

And now bring your awareness to any sounds that are around you.

The sound of your breath in and out.

The sound of my voice.

The sounds of nature that may be around you passing traffic.

Just noticing and observing and allowing your awareness and your attention to focus inward.

Breathing in and breathing out.

If you are sitting in a chair,

You may now gently open your eyes and allow your focus to come to rest on the candlelight in front of you.

If you are lying down,

Bring yourself up into a seated position and allow your focus to come to rest on the beautiful flame of light in front of you.

Simply observe the flame.

Your eyes gently rest on the flame of light,

Beautiful light,

Ancient light since the beginning of time.

The flame represents the light that shines within you.

Be aware of how it flickers.

Be aware of how it dances.

Continue to hold your gaze on the candle.

You may relax your eyes as you do so.

You may even momentarily close your eyes and notice as you do so whether the image of the candle remains within your mind's eye.

Relax and be with the presence of the light.

Continuing to breathe a full,

Steady and connected breath.

If your attention begins to wander,

Simply bring it back to the flame of light,

To your breath,

The sound of our voice guiding you.

Contemplate the essence of light.

Be aware of any feelings that are stirring within you.

Simply observing.

Observe the flame of light without evaluation or judgment.

It simply is.

Just be.

Be with the flame of light.

Continuing to breathe in and out a full,

Steady and connected breath.

If your awareness begins to wander,

Gently bring it back to the flame of light.

All your breaths.

The sound of my voice gently guiding you.

Now you may allow your eyes to gently close.

And you may notice that the image of the candle remains within your mind's eye.

Simply observe.

Breathing in and out.

Relaxing deeper and deeper into contemplation,

Meditation,

Relaxation.

Now bring your awareness to your forehead directly between your eyebrows.

You may have the image of the candlelight floating here.

Allow yourself to focus here within your mind's eye and imagine,

Sense or feel a point of light like a shining star sitting in the middle of your forehead.

This light is soul consciousness.

The soul consciousness is that part of you which is eternal,

Ever constant,

Ever growing,

Ever conscious,

All loving,

All knowing.

Maintain your awareness on the point of light in the middle of your forehead.

If your mind begins to wander,

Gently bring it back to this point of light,

Soul consciousness.

Now imagine,

Sense or feel this point of light within your forehead has a direct connection to all that is.

The creator,

The supreme being,

The great mystery.

You transcend space and time and physical reality to travel to a place of silent golden light to connect with divine love and light,

Pure consciousness.

Imagine,

Sense or feel this as a point of light,

Like a star of light that you have a direct connection to pure consciousness.

You feel energized,

Relaxed and peaceful.

Breathing in and breathing out.

Bring your awareness back to the point of light within your mind's eye.

Contemplate the essence of pure light.

Contemplate what it is to be within the physical body and the possibility of light and consciousness expanding,

Loving awareness through soul consciousness.

Allow your focus upon the point of light within your mind's eye to fade now.

And you now have a blank canvas of midnight blue.

Imagining this midnight blue canvas,

You begin to write upon your canvas in sparkling silver light the word joy.

And once you have completed writing that word joy,

Observe it within your mind's eye as it brilliantly explodes into a million sparkling diamonds and stars.

And again on your canvas,

You can write the word love and observe it there.

And it brilliantly explodes into a million sparkling diamonds and stars.

Continue on your canvas with the word peace,

Abundance.

They cross your blue canvas and they explode to millions of sparkling diamonds and stars.

And now with a word of your choice,

Write it across your canvas in sparkling silver light.

See it there.

And then it explodes into a million sparkling diamonds and stars.

Feeling yourself now relaxed and at ease and at peace.

It is now time to return to where you began this journey today.

Bringing yourself back to full alertness.

Bring yourself back into your body,

Back into the room.

Bringing back with you feelings of peace,

Joy,

Well-being.

Begin to wriggle your fingers and your toes.

When you are ready,

You may gently open your eyes.

Have a stretch.

Begin to go about your day.
