In Buddhism, Equanimity is described as an expression of love. It is a beautiful stable balance of the heart and mind, an expression of the heart and mind that is not afraid with things as they are. Of course, we are familiar with the heart and mind that is afraid, that is reactive, that is agitated, but there is also this potential for the heart and mind to be balanced, to be stable, to be imperturbable, unshakable, unafraid, and generous. We all have the potential to relate in this way, it is really just a matter of remembering this possibility. When the heart is full of equanimity it is likened to the full moon: luminous, boundless, and radiating in all directions, with a balanced care for the world.
