Here is an affirmation that you can practice in order to create a healthy boundary with your mother,
With your father,
With one of your siblings,
Or any members of your family.
This is my space.
You are over there and I am over here.
When I was little,
I would have done anything to make you happy,
But it was way too much for me.
Now,
I feel like I have to make everyone happy,
And it makes closeness feel suffocating.
Mom or dad,
From now on,
Your feelings are over there with you,
And my feelings are over here with me.
In this boundary,
I will honor my own feelings,
So that I don't have to lose myself when I start to feel connected with someone.
Take a few deep breaths.
When you feel ready,
You can slowly and gently open your eyes,
And I invite you to practice that affirmation for at least 21 days.
