Hello and welcome.
My name is Lee Anderson.
This meditation is called Shadow and Light,
A gently reflective meditation.
It's a calm exploration of self with kindness and curiosity and a little humor.
I'm so glad you've made the time to be here.
This is a quiet space,
A soft landing,
A gentle pause.
It's a moment to check in,
Breathe deeply and reconnect with the version of you that often gets drowned out by the to-do lists,
The notifications and even the laundry.
So tonight,
Or today,
Or whatever time you've stumbled into this moment,
We invite a soft exploration of light and shadow.
Not the big dramatic kind of shadow with spooky music,
But the quiet kind.
The unnoticed thoughts,
The hidden feelings,
The parts of us we've politely asked to sit in the back row.
This is where we begin,
With curiosity and a good deep breath.
So please get yourself comfortable.
Sitting or lying down,
Legs tangled in a blanket burrito,
No judgment.
Allow your hands to rest softly,
Maybe one palm facing up to receive and the other facing down to ground.
Or just hands doing their best,
That's fine too.
Close your eyes gently,
Lowering your gaze.
And now take a deep breath in and let it go slowly.
Let's extend the breath with an inhale for 4,
3,
2,
1.
Exhale,
Extend 5,
4,
3,
2,
1.
Inhaling 5,
4,
3,
Extending the exhale 6,
5,
4.
And with the breath traveling deep and slow,
Feel yourself arriving.
Not just physically,
But emotionally,
Mentally.
And you're allowed to drop the baggage at the door,
Even if you want to pick it up again later.
So we're letting go of what meditation is supposed to be.
There's no pressure to have a mystical experience or float off into the ether.
This is just time with yourself.
Honest,
Kind,
Maybe a little messy,
But it's real.
And if thoughts pop up like the pop-up ads,
That's okay.
Just gently return to your breath.
There is no need to unsubscribe.
So just imagining a soft glowing light above you,
Like a warm lamp or a moon,
Or your favorite nightlight from when you were little.
It shines down on you,
Not with judgment or expectation,
But like an old friend saying,
Hey,
I see you.
Let it wrap you up like a weighted blanket of calm.
And breathe that in.
Let go of whatever needs to be released.
Now imagine a pond nearby.
Still,
Calm and clear.
You look into it and see your reflection.
Peaceful,
Whole,
And completely you.
Then a breeze comes along and the surface ripples.
Your image blurs,
But you're still there,
Just in motion.
That's what we're doing tonight.
Gently seeing ourselves through movement,
Through change,
Through softness.
So let's talk about the shadow.
We all have one.
It's not the villain in the story.
It's just the stuff we've pushed aside over the years.
The parts of ourselves that we're told were too much,
Too loud,
Too sensitive,
Too weird.
Sometimes those parts show up as patterns,
As triggers,
As that feeling when someone says something that hits a little too close to home.
So tonight we meet those parts,
Not to fix them,
But to hear them.
To say,
I see you.
You're allowed to be here too.
So now let's bring to mind someone who gets under our skin.
Not full-blown nemesis energy,
Just someone who regularly presses your buttons.
What traits do they have that challenge you?
Are they pushy,
Too proud,
Always interrupting?
Take a breath,
And just for a moment,
Imagine saying to yourself,
I am,
And then followed by that trait.
I am pushy.
I am impatient.
I interrupt.
Now don't worry,
This doesn't make you a bad person.
It just makes you an honest one.
You have the capacity for all things.
And by owning these parts,
We stop letting them sneak up behind us.
Now let's balance things out,
Shall we?
Bring to mind someone you admire,
Someone whose presence feels like sunlight.
What qualities do they have?
Kindness,
Creativity,
Strength,
Excellent eyebrows.
Now softly say to yourself,
I am kind.
I am creative.
I am strong.
I have fabulous potential eyebrow energy.
These things you admire,
They live in you too.
You might not show them all the time,
But they're in there,
Maybe just waiting for the right conditions to bloom.
So now let's return to the breath.
Inhaling courage.
Exhaling resistance.
Inhale softness.
Exhale the performance.
And now invite in gratitude,
Not as a thought,
But as a feeling.
Feel that buzz of gratitude settle in your chest,
Your belly,
Your bones.
Gratitude for this moment.
Gratitude for your willingness to look inward.
Gratitude that you're showing up.
Shadow,
The light,
And all the in-between bits.
You are human.
You are learning.
You are becoming.
So we're going to take our time now,
Gently returning.
Just allow your awareness to settle back into your body and your breath,
Your seat,
Your space.
No rush.
A little wiggle of the fingers,
Slowly lengthening into a stretch,
Or just staying a little longer.
You might like to lift and place your hands over your heart.
Feel your heartbeat,
Your aliveness,
And feel the lightness of having made space for all of you.
Welcome back.
Thank you for being here.
You've just done something real.
And if your shadow pops up again tomorrow,
Which it might,
Just smile and say,
Oh,
There you are.
Fancy another chat.
Take your time as you re-enter your day or night.
And may you carry this gentleness with you wherever you go.
Namaste.
