A long time ago,
In a small town on the Mashurian Lakes,
There lived a middle-aged man named Ariel.
One day he was accused by his neighbor David,
After having spread the rumor throughout the town and the surrounding area,
That David had altered the weights of his scales,
And was deceiving everyone who came to his business.
The next day,
Ariel was reluctantly brought before the city rabbi.
He was then asked to present his version of the events,
To which he agreed.
What I said was a simple joke.
I wasn't serious.
My words were carried forth by others.
I am not responsible for David's misfortune.
The shopkeeper was halfway between anger and sadness.
You have tarnished my name.
The residents of the town don't come to my store anymore.
I don't know what to do.
I take it back right now,
Ariel responded.
So,
I assume that I am freed from all guilt.
The rabbi,
Who was known for his kindness and witty interventions,
Listened attentively,
And full of sadness,
He said to himself while shaking his head.
Ariel does not understand the extent of his behavior.
It is likely that he will not hesitate to repeat such injustice on another occasion.
Then he said to the accused,
The slander to David will not be forgiven yet.
Tomorrow,
At this same time,
You must bring a feather pillow to the market square.
Ariel,
Although grumbling,
Accepted.
These unique summons raised a lot of expectations among the villagers.
The next day,
Even people from the nearby towns came to the market square to learn about the resolution that the rabbi would apply.
Ariel,
Somewhat unwell due to his lack of sleep,
Presented himself with a pillow to the rabbi,
Who spoke these words.
Cut the pillow with this knife,
And allow the feathers to scatter around you.
Then bring me each of the feathers.
Ariel was perplexed,
But he immediately thought that it was a feasible task,
And without delay he began to apply the rabbi's instructions.
And so,
When the vast majority of the feathers were out,
A powerful swirling gust of wind swept across the plaza,
Displacing the feathers for many meters around.
Bees were falling on the crowd,
The streets,
The trees,
On the awnings of the sales stands,
And the merchandise.
Ariel began to collect the feathers that he had at his feet,
But quickly,
Remembering that unexpected and mysterious gust of wind,
He realized that he would not be able to fulfill his task.
So,
Head down,
He approached the rabbi.
I haven't been able to collect them all.
They have been scattered all over the town,
Said Ariel despondent.
Just like your words about David,
Replied the rabbi.
