Hello,
Welcome.
My name is The Redman.
Thank you for being here.
Today is a little message to help you keep going.
To understand that whatever it is that you are going through,
That there is a sense of fulfillment and meaning that can only be gleaned by going through what you're going through.
And I want to make and highlight this point through the concept of type 2 fun.
So I don't know if you've heard of this concept of type 2 fun.
And I'll start by saying that type 1 fun is the regular kind.
Going to a show,
Playing in the pool,
Whatever your cup of tea of fun is.
Type 2 fun represents something that wasn't fun in the moment,
But when you look back,
You laugh about how crazy or difficult the experience was.
An example is one time I got sick during a retreat in Nicaragua and our group was moving locations.
And so I had no choice but to go along for the journey.
And I ended up at some beachside bar with this intense fever and I started having these hallucinatory insights and I was on my camera and I recorded just a bunch of nonsense.
That day was awful.
But looking back at those videos,
I laugh at how ridiculous the scene was.
I tell the story with my wife and we both laugh.
And there's that type 2 fun that we're getting out of something that happened in the past.
And so.
.
.
This concept applies to more than just fun.
Like fulfillment.
Type one fulfillment is when we're enjoying the fruits of our labor.
We're creative,
We're sharing,
We publish a book,
We crush the presentation,
The client gets a breakthrough,
Whatever it is for you.
Type two fulfillment is when things don't go well.
But we look back later on and there's that rich meaning in having had gone through that experience.
I think of a day in June 2017 when I hit a breaking point.
I had quit my job two years earlier,
Yet I still couldn't make a living.
My wife and I had moved in with my parents,
Sitting on their porch,
Sobbing in despair.
I told her,
I don't know if I can go on like this.
As fate had it,
I had a discovery call with the coach the next day.
She ended up being the person who helped me grow my speaking career and build a business teaching mindfulness in schools.
She was also there to hold me through the immense fear and self-doubt I faced.
I look back at that moment almost a decade ago and feel so much fulfillment knowing I was able to move through the dark times without giving up.
Maybe you're in your own moment like mine right now.
One that you will look back on one day and appreciate in a way your current self could never understand.
If that is you,
Keep going.
Find the support that you need.
Keep waking up and trying again.
I promise,
Whatever it is that you're going through,
That there is a lesson,
And there is just that deep meaning of,
Wow,
I can endure,
I can persevere,
And you're gonna appreciate it so much more when you're on whatever the other side is,
And you look back and say,
Wow,
That shaped me,
That grew me,
I have so much more resilience,
I have so much more strength,
Have so much more capacity.
And so keep going.
I love hearing from you any thoughts or feelings about what it is,
How this resonated for you.
Feel free sharing and just know that I am rooting for you.
And if you are going through something challenging and would like little bursts of inspiration like this,
I have a course called Unshakable Peace,
22 Mantras of Hope.
And they're five,
Six minute tracks with music connected to give you some motivation,
Inspiration,
To give you a mantra that you can use to get through the things that you're moving through in your life.
So please go ahead,
Check out that course,
And I look forward to seeing you there.
Take care.
