Hello,
Welcome.
My name is Lew Redman.
Thank you for listening.
One of my greatest teachers of the past 12 years is not a traditional spiritual figure,
Yet his work has made no less of an impact.
Seth Godin is a business philosopher and marketing expert,
But anyone who knows Seth knows he is much more than that.
He is a champion of human creativity and a provocateur who helps us overcome the beliefs that keep us small so that we can share our gifts with the world.
One of the core mantras I've taken from Seth is,
This might not work.
It would be nice if we could create knowing the outcome.
If we knew the business would succeed,
The art would be celebrated,
And the book would have raving reviews.
But creativity doesn't come with certainty,
And often the biggest breakthroughs come when we are least sure of what will happen.
Recently I gave feedback to one of my client's projects,
And after implementing it,
He showed it to me again and he told me,
I'm not sure if this is going to work.
Bingo.
Now he was actually entering new territory,
Which is the definition of creativity.
If we always do what is assured,
Where is the fun of that?
There's going to be nothing new that is given to the world.
New results require new risks.
The mantra,
This might not work,
Applies to anything that demands vulnerability.
Proposing a new idea at work.
Asking someone out on a date.
Sharing a new offer on social media.
Submitting your book proposal to a publisher.
It might not work.
Do it anyway.
The successful ones rack up rejection after rejection after rejection.
They know that by staying in the game,
They are strengthening their resilience and perseverance.
Take this might not work as a mantra to bring in to your creativity and allow it to stretch you past your comfort zone.
To make failing the goal.
Because once you shift that mindset around failure,
You become unstoppable.
You know that I am in your corner,
Rooting for you on your path.
Thanks so much for listening.
Let me know how this landed and resonated for you.
And if you like using mantras like this might not work,
I have a whole entire course,
22 mantras of hope.
And that's a place I encourage you to check out if you like having just a few words of inspiration on a daily basis to help center you,
To help work through the challenges of life and reconnect you to what matters most.
So go check out that course and I look forward to connecting with you again very soon.
Take care.
