Welcome,

Dear one,

Welcome.

I know there's pain in your heart today,

The pain of separation and a longing for warmth and connection.

This meditation will soothe the ache and support the flow of your love to your distant or estranged young adult child.

You're safe here,

You are held here.

And so I invite you to begin settling in,

Breathing in fresh nourishment,

Oxygen,

Allowing it to flow to the parts of your body that need that nourishment,

That need more space,

More relaxation,

Breathing in and exhaling,

Exhaling what you no longer need,

What's been used,

What's outdated,

What is spent,

What is stagnant,

What is ready to be released.

Letting your body settle in,

Feeling your sit bones or the bottom of your feet or your back if you're lying down,

Feeling your contact with the earth and allowing gravity to hold you there,

Making any adjustments in your posture,

Your face,

Your neck,

Anything that wants to be adjusted to be more comfortable,

Inhaling and exhaling,

And on the next inhale making a sound,

Ah.

I'm going to invite you now to generate some heat.

You can begin by rubbing your hands together firmly,

Briskly,

Energetically until your palms feel quite warm,

Rubbing,

Warm,

And they feel quite warm,

Placing your palms on your heart and letting that warmth be absorbed inward.

Feel the warmth coming into your chest and then rubbing your arms now and making them warm,

Rubbing briskly,

Firmly,

Rubbing,

Rubbing,

Rubbing,

And letting that warmth flow into your arms,

Into the bones and muscles.

And now with your legs,

Rubbing your legs,

Letting the energy,

That friction create warmth and feel the warmth sinking slowly and sweetly into your skin,

Into the fluids,

And your muscles and bones,

And then taking in even more warmth,

This time from the sun itself.

Allowing the energy of sunlight to warm you,

Starting with your skin,

Your cheeks,

The backs of your hands,

Allowing the warmth to come into you,

Breathing and allowing all the way in.

And with all that warmth absorbed,

Bring it from all the different parts of your body now and allow it to concentrate in your heart space.

Light and warmth gathering there in your chest,

Flowing to your heart space,

Gathering,

Warming,

Warming,

Until it begins to look like a flame,

A lantern that sits in your heart.

And into that flame,

You're invited to place your love for your young adult child,

Focusing on all the things that you love about them,

All the care you have for their well-being,

All the love that was generated in times you spent together,

All that love that was just there the moment you became a parent,

And that grew and grew and expanded beyond what you ever could have imagined being able to hold.

Inhaling and exhaling,

Allowing the lantern to glow,

Bringing all of that love into the lantern,

And let it be a bright light,

A warm light,

A steady light that's always there for them.

No matter where they are,

No matter the physical distance from you,

No matter the emotional distance from you,

The lantern continues to burn.

It continues to burn when they won't speak with you.

It continues to burn when they shout at you.

This is a flame that was lit long ago when the spark of their life began.

Feeling the lantern's glow.

Let that glow be strong and true and bright in your heart.

Let it be sweet.

Let it be fierce.

Let it be powerful and bright.

Now,

Ever so gently and in your own way and in your own time,

Radiate the light and warmth a little outward from the lantern,

Just an inch or two.

To begin with,

Allow the space right around the lantern to fill with light and then allow it to expand a little more,

Just a bit more with each breath,

With the intention of expansion.

Allow that light,

That love to grow like a globe of light around the lantern.

Bit by bit,

There's no need to push.

Just breathing and allowing it to grow.

It will expand in its own time.

Now,

Give the glow of the lantern some direction.

Send it towards your grown-up child.

Radiate light out each time you exhale and see the love moving toward them.

Breath by breath,

Surrounding them,

Not too heavy,

Just a gentle warm cloud of love that surrounds them.

Exhaling,

Breathing the light.

To them,

Surrounding them.

This warm cloud of love doesn't have to do anything more than exist.

It doesn't have to invade their thoughts or direct their actions.

It's only something that you offer.

It requires nothing in return from them.

No thank you,

No gift,

No reciprocation.

You send this gentle glow of love to them and you let it be for them what they need it to be or what they want it to be.

Feel it and see it and use it in their own way,

As often as they like,

In ways that they need.

Not predetermined by you,

Probably not even imagined by you.

You send this lantern love genuinely.

And freely.

And you trust that it is received.

And see your young adult child there within the glow of your love.

And know that even if they never ever tell you so,

They do feel it.

Their heart knows that it is loved by your heart.

Even when their thoughts or emotions won't allow them to admit it even to themselves.

Their heart recognizes your love and takes it in.

Their heart knows your love is there.

And enjoying that image.

Seeing them there nurtured by your love.

Breathing in and breathing out.

The gentle cycle of your body,

Of your aliveness.

Surrounding them,

Supporting them.

See them there,

Held by your love.

And held by the greater love that holds us all.

And I invite you,

Ever so slowly,

To return to your own heart space.

Maybe placing your hand on your heart if you like.

Feeling the warm glow right there in your chest.

Breathing in and out.

Knowing that your heart is always there beating.

And that your love for them will always be living there too.

Love is endless.

You can send as much and as often as you like.

And it will be received.

Breathing gently into your heart space.

Feeling the love that you are.

And taking three gentle,

Full breaths into your heart.

And then another deep,

Deep breath into your heart space.

And releasing it.

Beautiful,

Beautiful.

And when you're ready,

I invite you to gradually begin coming back to your heart.

Coming back into this room.

First,

Into your body.

Maybe rubbing your fingertips.

Or slightly opening your eyes.

Wiggling your feet.

Opening your eyes a little more.

Taking in the room,

The sights around you.

Rubbing your hands together now.

And then up the sides of your nose,

Up the bridge,

And around you,

Across your forehead.

And back down your cheeks,

To your chin.

And doing it again.

Like drawing a heart on your face.

And one more time,

With a smile.

Thank you,

Dear one.

I wish you well as you step gently into the rest of your day.
