Hello.
Today I'm going to guide you through a bit of imagery to normalize being wired,
Tired,
And guide you into deep rest.
So imagine for a moment that your nervous system is like a house.
All day the lights have been on in every room,
The office,
Studio,
Kitchen,
Messages,
Ideas.
And tonight we're walking through gently,
Room by room,
Turning up the lights.
And you don't have to do this perfectly.
You just need to be here.
So begin by taking a couple of deep breaths on your own.
Letting your eyes close.
Then feel the shape of your body where you're lying.
Notice the outline of your body against the bed or couch that you comfortably lie on.
This is the house we're in tonight.
Your body,
Your breath,
This room.
Together we're going to take a slow breath in through your nose and let it fall out through your mouth.
As you exhale,
Imagine turning off the lights in just one small room of that house.
Maybe it's the planning room or the checking your phone room.
You don't lose anything.
You're just letting that room rest.
And move through your body now as if we're gently walking through the house.
We'll start at your feet.
So feel your toes,
The tops of your feet,
The soles resting on the surface beneath you.
Imagine flipping a little switch there,
Dimming the lights in the moving around room.
Your feet no longer need to carry you anywhere.
Bring your attention to your legs.
So your calves,
Knees and thighs.
Let them feel heavy.
Like cushions that have finally been sat on after a long day.
Maybe you visualize a hallway light being turned off here,
Softly,
Quietly.
There's nothing urgent to walk toward now.
Move into your hips and your lower back.
These are like the beams of your house,
Holding so much.
And with your next exhale,
Imagine releasing some of that holding into the mattress.
Turn off the lights in the bracing for the day room.
The structure of you is still here.
It just doesn't have to be tense.
Now notice your belly and your chest.
Your belly rises and falls with your breath.
Like a cozy bedroom curtain moving in a gentle evening breeze.
Your chest and heart might feel full,
Tight or numb.
Whatever's here is okay.
Imagine putting a soft warm blanket over this part of your house.
Letting the emotions on high alert room dim to a calm glow.
Now bring awareness to your hands and arms.
The hands that typed,
Text,
Held,
Created,
Even healed.
Maybe you imagine washing paintbrushes out at the end of the day or gently stacking your tools on a shelf.
And as you exhale,
Turn off the lights in the doing for others room.
Tomorrow you can return,
But tonight you rest.
Now move up to your neck,
Jaw and face.
Your jaw may have been clenching around unsaid words or decisions today.
To see if you can soften the muscles around your mouth,
Your cheeks and your eyes.
It's like closing the curtains of the front of the house,
Letting the outside world fade.
Finally,
Bring your awareness to the space inside your head.
All the ideas,
Worries,
Solutions,
Creative sparks,
Like books lining shelves.
And you don't have to burn the library down.
You're simply closing it for the night.
Imagine flicking off the overhead lights in the thinking room.
Leaving just a single candle of awareness on your breath.
Breathe in gently for your nose now.
And out slowly for your mouth.
Let the whole house of your nervous system grow quiet,
Room by room.
From the outside it might look dark,
But on the inside it feels peaceful,
Safe and warm.
If sleep begins to arrive,
Let it come.
You're not forcing yourself to sleep.
You're making conditions kind enough that sleep can find you.
So if your mind switches the light back on in one room,
That's okay.
Just notice and gently dim it again with your next exhale.
I'll leave you now in this resting house you've created for yourself.
The lights are low,
The doors are locked and you are safe inside your own body.
Your dreams,
Your work,
Your people will still be there tomorrow.
For now,
You are allowed to rest in this quiet.
