The Energy Of Cities - Masculine/Feminine
by Ishar Keshu
This talk covers how different cities have a certain energy or quality to them which can enhance your life in different ways depending on your stage in life. Every city occupies a certain ratio of distinct energies which I describe as Masculine and Feminine but you may substitute with Yin and Yang.

Hey this is Ish and today I wanted to talk to you about how different cities have a certain quality of energy and how this can either replenish you and make you feel really alive or certain cities have the quality of making you feel very focused.
And I have originally heard of this concept from the authors Fred Dodson and David Data when they talk about how certain cities have either masculine energy or feminine energy.
And you know you can substitute those words for yin and yang or active and receptive energy.
And essentially these two poles of energy are a bit different and just to describe it more in depth the masculine energy is related to forward moving energy so this is more of an active energy and this is also yang energy where it's forward moving directional and one pointed and very focused.
On the flip side we have the feminine energy or the yin energy and this energy is more receptive it's more internal and it's also related to the flow of life and being part of life itself.
So these are two distinct energies and certain cities have more of one quality than the other.
So on the masculine side or the yang side we have an extreme example would be Manhattan.
So if you've ever been to Manhattan it's very busy people always have a place to go and they have a purpose.
So this is so much so that even walking down the streets if you just walk really slowly you can't help but just to be moved by the crowd and people just kind of walk over you.
And people even jaywalk which is crossing the street illegally to get where they want and it's kind of like an unwritten rule over there where if the stoplight is red and you know you have to wait to cross you should actually cross anyways and even risk walking onto oncoming traffic just because you want to get to where you want to get.
So everyone has a place to be it's very it's the city of New York is or Manhattan is very focused on doing and getting things done.
So why would be being in a city like this be very beneficial for you.
Well it can provide a certain structure and discipline just from the energy itself and from the people around you because everyone has a place to be and just being in that energy field you kind of almost naturally start to become more productive and more disciplined and focused and be in a place like you know New York could be amazing because you can ignite your passions and actually follow through with what you want to do in life because there's just endless opportunities everywhere and you can accomplish goals.
And you know what's really beneficial about this is that when you start to accomplish goals in this aspect of being very focused you get a sense of relief when you complete things that's very rewarding and that's why people like to get things done because they feel a certain relief from getting things done that they said they were going to do.
And you start to see you just naturally just being in that environment you start to see more possibilities for yourself because in a place like that where there's just so many opportunities available you can't help but to be energized and be really focused and be drawn to accomplishing things and fulfilling your life's purpose.
And on the other side why this might not be so good for you depending on where you are what stage in your life or what energy you're currently occupying this could cause a bit of burnout if you're already kind of prone to working hard and being very focused so if you're already kind of stressed out as it is Manhattan is actually not a place for you because then you'll get more burnt out and feel very tired.
And being in this kind of environment for a while you develop a sense of coldness so it's kind of a detachment from other people.
This is kind of common I know there's like various stereotypes out there where people will say that New Yorkers are very cold or people from the East Coast because they have this front where they're not as open and inviting and that's just a byproduct of the environment.
So now let's look on the other side so the yin side this is more of the feminine pole so an extreme example of that city would be or place would be Hawaii so if you ever go to Hawaii you see the flowers and birds chirping and you know fruits and just it's just such a peaceful environment you see the here the ocean waves in the background and obviously this is a place where people go to vacation and just really relax and let everything go.
So people feel revitalized when they visit because the place embodies life itself or the life force energy and people just over there seem very relaxed because they're in the flow of life energy which is the yin quality so the opposite of the yangou that we just talked about and if you actually compare kind of like what I mentioned before about the coldness in certain places right in more masculine places you can think of the opposite in very feminine places because it's more of a different cultural more of a cultural vibe and people you know think of the Hawaiian term ohana which means family and you can compare that to the hustle associate or ambition associate with New York City and you can get two different vibes so obviously these places are very different and being in these different environments can help change your personality or even change the energy that you need to receive.
So why is a place like Hawaii very beneficial?
Well you can go there for healing to be healed from your daily stresses of life to relax and be more in touch with your with your inner nature and then you know just being there you can't help but feel very relaxed and calm because just you're surrounded by nature things around you and just an overall easygoing life and I believe it or not there are some bad things right so just like you know in New York or other very masculine places there are some downsides there are also some downsides in being very very feminine or receptive places and that's too much of this energy can cause you to be very passive so you just are taking it so easy that you don't have a drive to you know work on yourself and start doing things that you want to do because you're just sitting back and that actually pervades your life and other aspects of life where you just kind of just kick back a little bit more and I personally notice this myself and environments where are very peaceful and I've done like extended meditations in these environments where it's very exotic and at the end of it I just don't feel like doing anything so I just feel like just sitting around so you want to make sure that you also have that drive in there too and you know another thing is that you're kind of being swept away by the currents of life rather than being more proactive so when you're in the flow of life being listening to the birds and nature and all that you just kind of take life as it comes rather than the more masculine element of setting course and defining what you want and actually being a creator rather than a receiver so that could happen if you already have that kind of nature where it's more relaxed you kind of need more of that structure in place and one thing I also notice is that you're just if you have too much of the feminine energy you're not able to detach easily so if you think all the meditation scripts they say that you should be in this world but not in this world but not of it so that means that you should enjoy life but not be too attached to it and when you have too much of this feminine energy then you tend to be too immersed in things with the currents of life so if you think like an ocean you're in the wave itself that's feminine so you kind of are too close to the source of everything and rather the masculine energy is more of that boat that sits on top that is more detached from it and knows where it's going so these are two different energies and both have both its you know pros and cons depending on your personality your energy and what you need because everyone is different and people require different things of life and something I also wanted to add on is that there are also neutral cities so these are cities that don't have a strong current of either pole so not too much of the masculine or too much of the feminine and these examples would be more like suburban areas kind of like suburban Wisconsin or Phoenix Arizona just more residential which is not quite a countryside where you can see nature but it's not quite a city either so it's kind of like in between but it doesn't have a strong pole so these kind of places would be good if you don't want that strong current dictating your life or that environment to kind of pull you to different places because when you're in Manhattan for example you can't help but feel energized or drained or pulled to take action and likewise in your Hawaii you can't help but feel relaxed or lethargic or just more chill so there's two different sides but a neutral city will be good if you are maybe settling down or just don't want them too much of that strong energy here and there and this can also be good because you can create your own experience of things on your own without different influences and it's also very good for transitions too because this will allow a period of kind of looking inwards but the cons for this is that you will get a listless feeling kind of like a restless feeling that you want to something something bigger is calling for you and you're just kind of stuck in this bland city if you will and if you have more of this masculine energy or more young energy or more activity you might feel that you want more out of life or more things to do and if you have more of this feminine energy or more that yin energy of receptivity you might feel that your surroundings are just too dull it's lacking that life or vitality that you need in your life to feel you to feel more alert and rejuvenated so so yeah just take that into consideration and just know that going to different cities will have a different impact on who you are in your energy field so it can be a process of experimentation just to see what resonates with you and know that every city has its own purpose and stage for you so if you need more of that structure and discipline and actually taking actions of you more of that New Age person that likes to just kick back you actually might benefit from a more busy city like New York Tokyo London where things are just active and go go go likewise if you are a little bit more burnt out more of a type a personality where it's you know work work work you might benefit from relaxing in Hawaii so both have these cons pros and cons but ultimately just a process and understanding different energy fields thank you
