The Manipura Chakra.
The Solar Plexus Chakra.
Manipura.
And this word,
It's a Sanskrit word and it's broken down into two parts.
The first part,
Mani,
It translates to jewel,
As in a precious stone,
A jewel.
And the second part,
Pura.
Pura means a city or a place.
The literal translation of Manipura is city of jewels.
And it refers to the inner brilliance of will,
Vitality and clarity that lives in the core.
If Swadhisthana was emotional flow,
Manipura is the personal power which is shaped by awareness.
Where is this located?
This chakra is located in the upper abdomen.
It's the area between the navel and the sternum.
And this area is the body's energetic center of gravity.
The body's energetic center of gravity for action.
It's represented by the element of fire,
Agni,
Fire.
And fire represents transformation,
Digestion,
Both physical and psychological,
Courage,
Discipline,
Direction.
Its color is yellow and it is symbolized by a 10-petaled lotus or an inverted triangle.
And the mantra that is associated with this chakra,
The vibration that's associated with this chakra is Ram.
It goes like Ram.
And the triangle,
The inverted triangle,
It represents upward rising energy,
Upward movement,
Energy rising with a purpose.
So Manipura.
And here's something that many of us may have experienced.
You know when,
You know that you need to say no.
You've thought it true.
You've weighed the pros and cons.
You've even rehearsed the sentence in your head.
And then when that moment comes,
You say yes.
Not because you agree,
Not because you want to,
But because something in the body tightens.
And that tightening,
That hesitation,
That is often coming from our solar plexus.
It is coming from the core of our body.
In yoga,
The third chakra,
This is called Manipura,
Which means the city of jewels.
Located in the upper abdomen,
The solar plexus,
It governs our sense of personal power,
Autonomy,
And direction.
The Manipura chakra asks us the question,
Can I act on what I know?
This chakra associated with the element of fire.
And fire has that very specific quality.
Fire transforms,
Fire digests,
Fire takes something raw and turns it into fuel.
And in the body,
This shows up very literally as digestion.
And psychologically,
It shows up as the ability to process experience and move forward.
When our solar plexus chakra is balanced,
When Manipura is balanced,
We are clear in our decisions.
We are calm,
But firm in our boundaries.
We are motivated without being frantic.
And we are capable of saying yes or no without guilt.
We don't feel loud,
We feel steady.
When Manipura is underactive,
You might notice indecision,
Procrastination,
Difficulty asserting yourself,
Shrinking in a group setting,
Apologizing for your needs.
You may know what you want,
But you struggle to stand behind it.
And Manipura,
This chakra can also become overactive.
And when it's overactive,
We are at the table.
We tend to have control issues.
There's also that element of perfectionism that starts to show up.
Impatience,
The need to have things done your way.
This is when Manipura is overactive.
It's fire without regulation.
And both these extremes,
They come from the same imbalance,
Misdirected power.
Manipura is not about domination.
It's about inner authority.
It's the difference between forcing your will and standing in your clarity.
You can think of a steady flame,
Not a wildfire,
Not smoke,
But a contained brightness.
Heat.
And that's healthy solar plexus energy.
And we have felt this before.
We have felt this fire before,
All of us.
We felt it the moment we finally had that hard conversation.
Or the moment you committed,
We committed to something meaningful.
Or that moment when we stopped negotiating our worth.
We've all felt this energy in action.
And there's a sensation there.
It's a quiet heat in the center of the body.
Not anger,
But think of it as conviction.
And the question that Manipura asks is,
Can you trust your own direction?
Can you trust your own direction?
Because power,
Because this chakra has an association with power.
Because power is not loud,
But power is that calm decision to move forward.
How do I balance this chakra?
Some practical ways.
One of the best way.
Power begins in posture.
Sit upright without being rigid.
Engage your core.
Relax your shoulders.
Keep your spine tall.
Because our physical alignment,
It reinforces our psychological alignment.
So be mindful of your posture.
Secondly,
Become aware of your breath.
If you feel that your fire is low,
You can breathe from the abdomen.
Take stronger inhales.
Visualize warmth gathering as you inhale.
If the fire is excess,
If this chakra is imbalanced,
Slow your breathing.
Longer exhales.
And imagine warmth which is softening and not expanding.
Another effective way to strengthen Manipura.
Practice clean boundaries.
Manipura strengthens when we say no without over explaining.
When we are able to take one small decision quickly.
When we stop apologizing for neutral statements.
Every time we enforce a boundary,
Every time we practice a boundary,
We start to build inner authority.
Complete small tasks.
A very effective way to bring back power to yourself.
Complete small tasks.
Because fire thrives on completion.
Choose something small.
Finish one email.
Clean one draw.
Close one loop.
Because neurologically,
Completion builds confidence.
Digest your experience.
Fire is digestion.
Not just for food but also for emotion.
Digest experiences.
Ask yourself,
What am I holding on to?
What needs to be processed rather than to be suppressed?
Journaling is very effective in regulating internal heat.
Simple journaling.
And then there's sunlight.
Spending time in sunlight.
Having a warm bath.
Strengthening your Kodam.
Very effective ways of balancing this chakra.
And when it comes to Manipura,
Very simple daily practice.
Every morning ask yourself,
What is one aligned action I can take today?
And then take that action.
Small consistent action.
It stabilizes this chakra faster than big declarations.
Balanced fire.
It warms and it illuminates.
It does not scorch.
Thank you for listening.
