Making it safe to create a game.
This meditation is inspired by week 1 of The Artist's Way,
Recovering a sense of safety.
Make yourself comfortable.
Let your hands do this.
Close your eyes if that feels right.
Take a slow breath in.
And breathe out.
Once again.
Breathe again.
And slowly breathing out.
Allow the Teaching.
The Memory the questions to settle.
You do not need to solve anything today.
You do not need to heal every creative disease.
You do not need to become fearless.
Just arrive here.
Feel your body.
Support it.
Feel your feet.
Your hands.
Y'all be there.
And imagine if you can.
That somewhere within you lives the part of yourself that creates.
You may see a younger version of yourself.
Or perhaps.
.
.
No image at all.
Maybe only a feeling.
A curiosity,
A spark,
A longing.
You don't need to make it appear.
Just make Zoom for them.
Perhaps this part of you.
Once wanted to draw.
Right?
Sing.
Dance.
Build.
In well.
Photograph.
Explore.
Tell story.
Make beautiful things.
Maybe somebody encouraged it.
Maybe somebody dismissed it.
Maybe somebody laughed.
Maybe nobody noticed.
Perhaps life simply became busy.
Whatever happened?
You do not need to judge yourself for becoming careful.
Quietly say this.
To this part of yourself.
I understand.
Why You Learned to Hide.
I understand.
Why you became careful.
Perhaps you spent years comparing yourself.
Perhaps you believe that only talented people were allowed to create.
Perhaps you thought creativity had to become a career to matter.
Perhaps you thought you were too old.
Too busy,
Too inexperienced.
To ordinary.
Or perhaps you simply forgot.
Let all of that be here.
Without needing to fix it.
And imagine now that you sit beside this creative part of yourself.
Not above it.
Not dragging it forward,
Beside it.
And C.
You don't have to prove anything to me.
You don't have to be good.
You don't have to show anyone.
We can begin private.
Notice what happens inside.
Perhaps that is relief.
Perhaps resistance,
Perhaps nothing obvious.
All of it is welcome.
Now imagine placing something between you.
A notebook,
A pencil.
A game without a beanbag.
A piece of clay,
An instrument or perhaps just an empty page.
No assignment.
No audience.
No deadline.
And quietly say,
We.
Can play.
We can make mistakes.
We can learn slowly.
I will not compare your beginning.
With someone else's mastery.
Take a deep breath with that.
Perhaps an old voice appears.
You're not good enough.
It's too late.
This is silly.
You should be doing something useful.
Don't fight the voice.
Simply recognize it.
That is an old story.
And beneath it offers something new.
A new story.
I am allowed to begin.
I am allowed to learn.
I am allowed to create without knowing where this will be.
By creativity.
Does not need to justify.
It's existence.
Now imagine taking the hand of this creative self.
Just as we did in our first meditation.
But this time perhaps you say something more.
I will try to make this safe for you.
I will listen when you are frightened.
I will protect beginnings from unnecessary judgment.
I will give you time.
I will give you curiosity.
I will let you play.
And now imagine the week ahead.
Not 12 weeks.
Not your future masterpiece.
Just this week.
See yourself opening your morning page.
A pen touching paper.
No performance,
Just a meeting place.
See yourself choosing one artiste.
Something small.
Something interesting,
Perhaps slightly unnecessary.
Something done because curiosity said.
Let's go there.
And perhaps one small creative act.
10 minutes drawing.
Picking up the guitar.
Writing one paragraph,
Taking photos,
During a walk,
Buying paint,
Reading poetry,
Dancing in your living room.
Nothing heroic.
Just evidence,
Evidence that the door is open.
Evidence that the door is open.
Take another slope there.
And silently the peace.
It is safe for me to be curious.
It is safe.
For me to be a beginner.
It is safe for me to make imperfect things.
It is saved.
For me to take my creativity seriously.
I am willing to agree.
Rest with that.
I am willing to create.
Not,
I promise to become brilliant.
Not,
I promise I will never be afraid.
Simply,
I am willing.
Begin to notice your body again.
The surface beneath you.
The area around you.
Your hands.
Yofi Take one final slow breath in.
And breathe out.
NFAI's workload.
Gently open your eyes.
Namaste.
