This reflective poem is inspired by Yoga Sutra 1.8: Viparyayo mithyā-jñānam atad-rūpa-pratiṣṭham Misperception is false knowledge based on something other than the true nature of what is perceived. A thought can feel true without being true. This poem explores how the mind can mistake silence for rejection, feedback for attack, fear for truth, or one mistake for an identity. Like mistaking a rope for a snake, the body may react strongly even when the mind has misunderstood what is here. Listen when you feel caught in overthinking, emotional reactivity, self-judgment, or painful inner stories. You are also warmly invited to join the Living the Yoga Sutras group here on Insight Timer, where we explore Patanjali’s wisdom through teachings, Yoga Nidra, poetry, and reflection. Question the story. See more clearly. Return to awareness.
